💥Celebrating Bitcoin Ekasi as the African Bitcoin Circular Economy of the Year, 2025! 🇿🇦 We are profoundly honored to celebrate @BitcoinEkasi founded by Hermann Vivier @vryfokkenou and led by Luthando Ndabambi @LuthandoSABTC as the African Bitcoin Circular Economy of the Year. Based in a township (Ekasi) in Mossel Bay, they are proving that Bitcoin is the ultimate tool for financial sovereignty and community upliftment, directly bypassing the barriers of the inflationary Rand. In 2025, their model reached maturity, transforming a local community. This transformation included establishing a 100% Bitcoin Payroll for all 21+ staff and coaches of @the_surfer_kids NPO, ensuring their income is sound money. They achieved significant Merchant Adoption by onboarding over 32 local shops, vendors, and spaza shops to accept instant, low-fee payments via the Lightning Network, creating a robust, self-sustaining economy. For Community Integration, they deepened their partnership with T.M. Nanda Primary School, demonstrating Bitcoin’s power to maximize impact: donated funds spent locally in Bitcoin achieved three times the work compared to traditional fiat donations. Furthermore, the Education Hub at the Bitcoin Ekasi Center remains a vital walk-in spot for financial literacy, ensuring self-custody and technical know-how are accessible to everyone. Bitcoin Ekasi is the definitive blueprint for how to truly Bitcoinize Africa from the ground up by building trust, driving utility, and prioritizing the people who need it most. We salute their relentless service and incredible vision!

Bitcoin Ekasi Student Rewards Update This week, three of our dedicated Bitcoin students visited the center to spend their hard-earned rewards — while the rest of the group is already off enjoying the school holiday season. The trio proudly used their rewards at Jabulani Shop, celebrating their progress after completing their Bitcoin lessons for the term. Their consistency and commitment truly paid off! At Bitcoin Ekasi, every reward represents learning, discipline, and growth. We’re proud of these students for ending the year on a strong note!

Student Helps Community Member With Blink Wallet Yesterday at Bitcoin Ekasi, one of our Bitcoin students helped a community member download and use the Blink Wallet app. With guidance from Ms Sassa, they showed them how to install the app, create a wallet, and how to check, receive, send, and spend sats. Simple skills, shared knowledge, and real Bitcoin empowerment in our community.

BIG day today! @LuthandoSABTC, @Rotso16Rotso and @ThinusXpressed had a full day of meetings with important community stakeholders to canvas support for the construction of our new Ekasi Center. The next Municipal Council meeting is at the end of September and we expect a vote on our land purchase application at that meeting. Support from the local township community will be crucial to secure a favourable outcome. For more info on our campaign to build a new Ekasi Center visit: support.bitcoinekasi.com

Very sad news. If you've ever visited our project and spent some sats here, chances are you visited this shop. Kwallos Shop, owned by Nosihle and her husband Vuyisa, was the first township spaza shop to start accepting payment in #Bitcoin, in August 2021. x.com/BitcoinEkasi/s… x.com/LuthandoSABTC/… Unfortunately they had a fire accident over the weekend. A close family member lost his life when the informal building where he lived adjacent to the shop burnt down and caused extensive damage to the shop itself, destroying most of their stock.
