The Christian church landscape is dominated by the big three: Catholic, Baptist (many non-denoms are Baptist in theology & practice even if not by affiliation) and Pentecostal/Charismatic (includes the rest of the non-denoms). As far as brand recognition goes, everything else gets lost on the shelf.

Disturbing numbers. If you talk to enough people from Gen Z, you’ll notice a contempt for Israel that goes far beyond criticizing policy. It’s antisemitic and has its roots in the demonic. Woe is us if we don’t educate enough people to reverse this trend.

@caseytaylor Yep, the UMC has almost killed the brand. It’s no surprise to me that many GMCs would rather be a store brand community church. God willing, orthodox Methodists will take back the name as progressive Methodism fades into oblivion.

I’m not convinced most non-Methodists even know there’s difference between the UMC and the GMC, or that both denominations even exist. Methodism overall seems to have a bad reputation thanks to the progressive insanity the UMC allows that has been amplified on social media.

Cut back on your doomscrolling. Find positive accounts to follow. Unfollow and mute the negative accounts. Stop encouraging clickbait. Close your social media apps and open up your Bible app from time to time.

I've found that for personal prayer, a blend of liturgical prayer and extempore prayer is optimal. And a healthy amount of silence. Don't underestimate the power of speaking and listening to God's word when you pray.

The trend in some Methodist churches has been to move away from Methodism’s Anglican roots and shed most of the liturgical elements. That’s not really new… we’ve always had churches on both ends of the continuum. But I believe it’s good to lean into both the liturgical & evangelical parts of our tradition.

Christians have different views on how to interpret 1 Timothy 2:12. Most Methodists and Pentecostals do not believe it is a universal prohibition against women teaching or preaching. Some other Christians disagree. There are many good articles online from both perspectives that go deep into the topic.

I’m sure there are some congregations that are less than thrilled about the possibility of having a woman appointed as pastor, some because they had a bad experience with a liberal appointment when they were UMC. The GMC encourages women pastors, as well as bishops and presiding elders, in all geographic areas of the church as far as I know, as do all major Methodist denominations.

I’ve not heard that. The GMC charges no “franchise fee” and apportionments are significantly lower than in the UMC. I suspect some congregations didn’t join because they felt burned by their previous denomination and others maybe didn’t want to make two big decisions at once. My church did both votes together but others may not have been able to pull that together.

@ShaneRaynor A lot of churches left the UMC, but they have not joined the GMC. They have gone independent. I've not been able to get a good answer as to why. My theory is these churches spent so much 💰to leave the UMC, they are financially unable to join the GMC. Have you heard differently?

@ShaneRaynor Shane, I can’t DM you. Just wanted to tell you that Methodistprayer.org quite genuinely changed my life. It introduced me to liturgical prayer as a Pentecostal who knew that John Wesley was one of my theological forefathers. It also saved my prayer life. Thank you!

If there's no Global Methodist Church in your city, pray about organizing a team to plant one and/or start a house church. You don't need a church building to have a church. Also, consider connecting with Wesleyan or Free Methodist Churches in your area.

Methodism is a movement. It exists both inside and outside of established churches and denominations. Christianity isn't limited to Methodism, and Methodism isn't limited to a denomination or even multiple denominations.
