The #1 reason Catholics leave Rome?
The Bible.
When you compare the teachings of Rome with the plain text of Scripture, you might start to wonder which book Rome was reading.

@ChristopherHale Good to see he agrees that the US Civil War was wrong
English

@FrDaveNix @acatholiclife One might think those who claim antiquarian bases for the NOM and communion in the hand would want to retain ancient fast and abstinence practices as well

In the early Church, Christians couldn't eat meat on any Friday of the year, even when Christmas fell on a Friday. Pope Saint Gregory the Great changed that around the year 600. Obviously, you're not bound to that, but I do find it funny how many modernists erroneously believe the early Church lived charismatically without rules. The fact is most Catholics today couldn't live a week under the rules that bound the early Church.

@MrsCathComedy Let us know how it goes. Also curious about whether or not party size affects gifts
English

@StochasticUltra Nothing. I'm doing it next weekend for my son. As big as we can afford. But I'm curious as a society why we don't.

@VadeadIesum 83% of Catholics fail to attend Mass every Sunday, but you have decided to criticize those who are there instead of educating those committing grave sin. Interesting.

@MaryLTrump So Biden should not have been able to sign the automatic selective service registration that just went into effect?
English

@Joseph_Spurgeon If every person is qualified to interpret the Bible for him/herself, why do protestants have sermons? Why not just read scripture and move on?
English

Roman Catholics are always telling me sola scriptura is not in the Bible.
That is cute.
I thought you people were not supposed to interpret the Bible for yourselves. I thought that was the whole speech. The ordinary Christian cannot rightly understand Scripture. The individual believer is not authorized to settle doctrine. You need the church. You need the magisterium. You need Rome.
And yet, somehow, every Roman Catholic on the internet becomes a one man magisterium the second he wants to tell a Protestant what the Bible “really says.”
So here is my new rule:
I do not take Bible lessons from people who insist they are not competent or authorized to give them.

@Martina @insatiablevine Automatically register only men to vote? OK, your terms are acceptable
English

@insatiablevine Why not for voting too? Nice argument you have though…

@LeftyWinter You should immigrate for that amazing Mexican health care

@RetroCoast Please rewrite your first sentence in active voice. Who confirmed?

@ShawnRyan762 @ShawnRyan762 you got worked. Need to be less gullible

The Pentagon summoned the Pope's ambassador, told him the United States has the military power to do "whatever it wants," and warned that the Church better take its side.
They even invoked the Avignon Papacy, a dark chapter in history when a government used military force to bend the Church to its will.
So where exactly does this end? If the Pope refuses to fall in line, what's the next move, bomb the Vatican?

@sadgirlyboss the problem is that all of those feasts are supposed to be preceded by fasts, but ain't nobody got time for that in the last 60 years.
English

@Catholic_Ham @PaulinusOfTrier Many Catholics mistakenly believe that all temporal punishment for sins is remitted without detachment from sins on Divine Mercy Sunday, so we should probably get rid of it.
English

@PaulinusOfTrier How many realize the Church did that because Catholics were mistakenly believing this minor absolution absolved from grave sin (which it doesn’t)? They wanted to highlight the need from sacramental absolution of mortal sins.
