@FreightAlley So, you think that the US couldn’t build container ships if needed?

The NATO fiasco just exposed a massive US national security vulnerability: America barely owns any ships. The top 5 container shipping firms (all European or Chinese) control 65% of global capacity. The US has zero container shipping firms in the top 30 — and less than 0.2% of worldwide container shipping. If Europe won’t even let us use their bases to strike a regime they hated… What happens to this shipping capacity when we’re in a hot war with China and European leaders demand their shipping firms reduce capacity or cut off American businesses that do business with the US Department of War? Supply chains are the front lines.

@igorsushko I think, given the experience in Ukraine and the endorsement for Orban, the EU has come to the realization that they cannot rely on the US anyways, irrespective of if they are in NATO or not

@klaasm67 Well, since they are required to do so under their NATO obligations anyways, what is your point?

Are the people on this platform who claim that NATO would be better off without the US also willing to increase their own countries’ defence budgets by another 50–75%?

Saudi Arabia and Syria make a deal to pipe oil around the Strait of Hormuz Once that pipeline is done Iran won’t be worth a quarter of its value.

The Strait of Hormuz lies within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. South African vessels can pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

@WarMonitor3 What choice do you have? They mount a senseless war. Cripple your energy supply in the process. Then expect Europe to do all the dirty ground work while they sit back. Much easier to deal with Iran at the negotiating table

I do not see the performative banning of US airforce planes from European airspace or bases as beneficial towards us at all its all politIcal posturing. Not involve ourselves in military operations fine, ban US airforce planes in our alliance from operating to far...

@pmddomingos But since the US caused the straits to be closed in the first place, this is the literal equivalent of farting in an elevator then stepping out when everyone else gets in

Europe needs to reopen the Strait of Hormuz way more than America does, but refuses to help America do it. And Europe is within range of Iran's missiles, unlike America, but refuses to help America get rid of them. Maybe it's time to abandon Europe to its fate.

As a European, I am not afraid that the USA will leave NATO. We already know that they do not have good intentions to Europe and that we, therefore, have to build our defence to be able to fight without the Americans. We are well on our way and it will happen a lot faster if the USA leaves NATO officially. Russia is too weak and small to be a long term threat to Europe. They simple can not match what we can produce. As long as we keep Ukraine from falling, Russia is also not a threat to us in the short term. So if the USA leaves NATO, it is simple for us: Keep Ukraine from falling at all costs and build up European defence and weapon production as fast as humanly possible. We can and we will do that and Europe will be absolutely fine and safe.

The USAF is 200% larger than the rest of NATO combined. The USN is 80% larger than the rest of NATO combined, not to mention 11 American carriers vs 2 Euro carriers. NATO cannot project power without the US and apparently leaders in Europe are unaware of this fact. Words don't stop missiles and drones.
