It was meant to care for the most vulnerable. People who lost a limb or 2 and cant work or who are too sick to live more than 5 ft from a hospital. It wasn't meant for anyone capable of bitching and moaning about what it would be worth or the APY it could earn them.
Being able to make those arguments puts you far and above the threshold to qualify for the program.

@RepLuna This tweet will not age well. You do realize a SS# is needed to pay taxes right? Anyone on a temp work visa (H1B or seasonal worker or J1 etc) needs a SS# to pay taxes. Those people also pay into SS and medicare. A ss# is not the same as citizenship for voting . Stop lying
