Free use and CNC are not automatically the same thing. CNC is usually scene-based. It’s negotiated roleplay around simulated non-consent, resistance, helplessness, or loss of control. The key part being: the consent was discussed beforehand. Free use is more about ongoing permission and access within a dynamic. Things like “you can initiate like this” “these contexts are okay” “this kind of touch is welcome unless stated otherwise” Less “forced scenario.” More “standing agreement.” For example: -waking someone up with touch -bending them over while cooking -interrupting them for affection or sex -using certain language or physical access that’s already been negotiated Both still require communication, boundaries, trust, and the ability to stop or adjust things instantly. Healthy dynamics don’t remove consent. They create clearer frameworks around it.

This is so crazy to me because even when I was young and dumb and also on the left, I never would’ve done this. What makes CnC (Consent non-consent) different is that it often involves: 👉🏻 resistance as part of the scene
(the sub may struggle, argue, try to pull away, attempt to “escape”, or verbally push back during the roleplay) 👉🏻 “no” as roleplay language
(“no”, “stop”, “don’t”, “let me go”, “you’re hurting me” etc) 👉🏻 simulated loss of control
(being pinned, restrained, cornered, carried, overpowered, given instructions, or placed in scenarios where control appears limited within the agreed roleplay) Which means it usually requires more negotiation, not less.
Clearer boundaries. Stronger safety systems. A BDSM dynamic can exist without any simulated non-consent at all. CNC specifically revolves around those elements, which is why trust, communication, and structure matter so much.
