@alecthomas Ah apartment hotels? I do want a kitchen and multiple rooms (so we can get away from the kids every once in a while) and that gets horribly expensive in a hotel.

This post reminds me just how shit Airbnb is and why I no longer use them. My last experience: as we were leaving, my Mum’s dog became suddenly ill, and died later that day. No response from the owner, charged me the $150 "cleaning fee". Airbnb refunded me later, at my behest.

@tirsen Hotels. There are way more apartments in hotels now, presumably due to pressure from Airbnb. So I guess something good came from them…

Has @YouTube’s content detection algorithm imploded? How is it possible there are channels like @horizonfilms592/videos" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">youtube.com/@horizonfilms5… with full movies available? Not to mention all the absolute garbage AI videos on the platform.

@dosinga Maybe, but they’ve had years to make _super_ basic shit like autocomplete not suck, and they haven’t done anything. I think you’re right though, that if they _do_ make assistants useful they’ll do it well and the rest of the industry will follow.

@alecthomas Apple never has a track record until they do. The M4 looks like it could run a local LLM if sufficiently limited using fine tuning to make Siri useful. And the world will go, oh, Apple invented smart assistants. And Google will follow.

Despite Google having a two, three year head start to make the Assistant the first functioning talking AI I'm now thinking Apple will beat them to it and finally make Siri smart
