This Government did not earn the right to decide what Bills should be passed, what laws should be written. Now that I told you a story about Scheer, I'll tell you one about Pierre. Sometime after the election last year I got a call from an unknown number on my phone. It was Pierre Poilievre. He said he liked the work I was doing and to keep it up. It was a relatively short ten minute conversation or so but I made sure to say my piece. We had some small talk about my day job, my health condition, if I was a union member, etc. I told him it was always pleasant to see him on the street and I looked forward to seeing him again and asking hard questions, which I said I knew he'd have a good answer for. Side note: it is remarkably hard to ask Canadian politicians of any stripe questions as a pleb, especially party leaders. My greatest chance with Pierre was admittedly missed because I yielded to another reporter. Canadian politicians aren't famous for thinking on their feet and being charismatic. Pierre is by far the fastest in generations. I've seen and shown the others. And they hate him for it. I spent the phone call telling him that he needs to be a lot bolder with policy and also to speak more from the hip with less slogans. He is a competent speaker, I said. I admitted I wasn't a politician or political planner but he's quite good at speaking freely and so he should do it more because that's when someone's real self comes out. That's what got the 8 million voters. Not the slogans, charts, or anything else. I also encouraged him to lean on the strengths of the caucus because there's some really great people in it like Larry Brock, Michael Barrett etc. I named them. Those people and many others need to be up front speaking because they care about issues that matter and they're sharp as a tack, I said. I'm nobody. But Pierre called me? I told him there was a reason people showed up like they did for the CPC. The rallies to see HIM with lines out the door, many times stretching for kilometers. There was a reason why they got more than 8 million votes. People saw a reason to hope in our country again. He captured that hope for them. And I told him all of that. I told him I saw he cared about voters when he took time at the end of the Kingston Rally to walk back from getting on his bus to greet supporters for just one more very long moment before returning to his family on the bus. He called me. I heard his authenticity before and I heard it then. I think Canada missed out. Is he perfect? No. Is he better? Absolutely and it's not even close. Never let the hope die.

The chair says he was disturbed how easy it was for the head of Brookfield to end up having a meeting with Carney in his office. They are recommending changes to the conflict of interests act. One hurdle, the liberals will need to approve it.
