Why are people voting No? It’s not because of racism. Progressives need to accept the reality that the majority who plan to vote no are not racists. (Yes, a minority are and we can see them online.) If that was accepted early in the campaign, there would have been a lot more scrutiny on what the Yes campaign was doing. Looking into the mirror is not always easy but it’s a must for any successful campaign. The ‘you are all racist’ knee jerk response does not stack up either. Take a look at the two front persons for the No camp. They are Aboriginal. The minute the public face for No became Aboriginal, the Voice moved from something that was above politics to being all about politics. Red v Blue. Many Australians outside wealthy suburbs and the political bubble loath anything to do with politics. If people want to turn this ship around, then climbing down from the moral outrage platform will be a critical step. Times running out though. P.S I am voting Yes.

Remote Indigenous communities need to stop blaming the rest of Australia for local problems. No one - no one - forces a person in a remote community to drink themselves into a stupor. No one is stopping their children from going to school. No one is telling husbands to beat their wives or abuse their kids. No one is encouraging people to smash up shops and rob local clubs. Closing the gap starts with taking personal responsibility. Australia has been built by generations of people, from all over the place, who started with nothing. An entire civilisation has been constructed out of the dirt. But nothing in this world is built by those who look backward. Until this is acknowledged, no amount of money or activist bureaucracy will make the slightest bit of difference. The #Voice is just another money pit for those who want to see remote communities trapped and exploited forever.
