If you are on the Sky of Blue, please follow me at abhayakara. I'm also on the ancient hairy elephant, of course. I think it's well past time for me to stop being here.

IMO, if you really wanted to find traction with Canadian voters, you'd figure out how build about 3 million family sized households with good quality high volume transit connections over the next 5 years, not 1 & 2 bedroom condos.

yeah I’m good we already got the example from the growth-obsessed of how fucked up and terrible it is. why don’t yall look in the mirror for once. “convince me to be different” is a weak excuse for non-reflectivity. you don’t like challenges to your ideology, so you don’t listen
Paul Graham@paulg

Degrowthers should lead by example. Don't tell us how you think we should live. Live that way yourselves, and show us how much better it is.

@itinerantfog Oh yeah, if there's a lot of shit going on awareness can be pretty thoroughly suppressed. Sometimes it helps to notice that and see if you can release whatever contraction is happening; other times, you just have to get through it.

@cdr truth. awareness feels a bit dim at the moment or I might have “seen through it” more

@itinerantfog Basically, suffering is a process. Anything that produces a disagreeable state of mind is a process. When you have awakenings, this gives you access to these processes. If you can pause the process and zoom in, this gives the deep mind an opportunity to tweak it.

@itinerantfog Right. There's something coming up for you when you see this. Being irked is a form of suffering. So if you can access that process as it happens, you may be able to remove some suffering.

@itinerantfog Of course. Question is, why do you care? When you see a thunderstorm happening, you probably seek shelter, but hopefully you don't get irked because Mother Nature is out to get you. :)

@cdr in my head it feels like it’s sounding alarm bells that this is an emotional grievance draped in a false proposition and a pretense of moral superiority

@itinerantfog It feels like "just irks me" is a pointer to some de-/re-conditioning work that could be fruitful. The world is full of assholes. As the Buddha said, you can pave the world with leather, or wear shoes.

I don’t even know what a “degrowther” is and I don’t care. I’m not advocating for it because I don’t know what it is. but this statement just irks me. you’re sensitive. you’re annoyed. you’re bitter. you don’t like when a negative spotlight is shined on your choices. you’re upset

@No5mallf3at @lastpositivist Which just goes to show: most religious thought is essentially fanfic. To answer your question about the Buddha in Buddhist fanon, no, because there is no Christian heaven. In Christian fanon, no, because the Buddha did not take the Baby Jesus as his personal Lord and savior.

@lastpositivist Serious question time, does Buddha go to heaven because his soul was pure, and would Jesus reach nirvana because he was enlightened. Let’s see the pope answer that one ☝️

This is the life you're born into if you die without calling on Lord Buddha's name.

@lastpositivist Imagine your life being this. Every day you turn on your PC, edit a thumbnail with the same font, use the same picture of Henry Cavill, talk about the same things, read comments from the same users, and retweet the same rage you had the day before. Torturous loop.

@DrKarimWafa You know that the house is controlled by Republicans, right? So when Biden makes statements like that, that's who he's talking to. Well, he's talking to you, but he's doing that so that you will encourage them to vote for what he's proposing: that teachers get paid more.

@davidhanley72 @nicksortor @CollinRugg FWIW, the SFPD has been working hard on smash and grab and there was a substantial decrease in incidents last fall (haven't seen stats for this year). Problem isn't solved, but the notion that they aren't doing anything is wrong.

@nicksortor @CollinRugg That 1) Is actual work 2) Doen't lead to revenue Sure, the smash & grab hurts society, but protecting society obviously isn't the goal anymore

NEW: The San Francisco Police Department is dressing up as inflatable chickens to catch speeding drivers going through crosswalks. The officers are giving out citations to those who don't stop for the chicken crossing the road. The gig is paying off as the department has given out about 40 citations with some fines costing upwards of $400. "If you don’t see someone in a giant chicken costume, then we really have a problem," said police Lt. Jonathan Ozol to the SFGate. "It’s having an impact. Drivers seem more aware, more cognizant. Certainly when they see the chicken." Video: SFGate.

Ok so the real question is: why do non linguists think it's very spicy to disagree with ideas about generative syntax?

@lastpositivist Also, this is just a weird flex, considering that the picture they use to illustrate this supposed bygone time of Better Men shows a bunch of violent shitheads killing each other on horses.

I guess it makes it easier for a person to be "oriented by higher duty rather than material comforts" if after all the material discomforts are being borne by someone else.
C.Jay Engel 🌲@contramordor

The twentieth century American hates the Old South because it was the last embodiment of the ancient English society; metaphysical in its values, chivalrous in its loyalties, oriented by higher duty rather than material comforts. The South was among the last of a bygone world.
