@Real_Politik101 Argentina would need to use any force. They could probably get Starmer to pay them $50 billion to take it.

If NATO is gone, Argentina is definitely invading to retake the Falkland Islands. With Chagos, Starmer completely torched the deterrence Thatcher built with the last war. And Milei could easily take it. Britain can’t do anything. No ships. Now all of LATAM now recognizes Malvinas as Argentina’s. With them also becoming one of America’s most loyal ally, chances are high the U.S. stays out and lets it happen

@bc_perspective If the Feds can make us pay $90 billion (probably more) for high-speed rail Toronto-to-Montreal (540km), then why not high-speed rail from Hope-to-Vancouver-to-Whistler (280km), and a rail crossing to Vancouver Island ?

Want to fix housing, transportation & create jobs in BC? Build 10 lanes to Chilliwack & a crossing to Vancouver island & Sunshine Coast. Afraid of offending CCP’s Musqueam treaty? Then get out of office It’s time to grow some balls & reclaim our Province Or not.

@SandyofCthulhu ok, hear me out... maybe the local managers should be better trained to estimate how many donuts they need to make. They aren't just going over by a few dozen. They are making 100s extra, without any concern. I thought managers were supposed to worry about margins.

Okay let's discuss why Krispy Kreme does this: 1) obviously, they miscalculated how many donuts to make that day. They don't WANT to waste the food. Since you can't predict your customers, sometimes you will have too much food. 2) Because they're a business, they can't just hand out the donuts for free at day's end, or they won't be able to sell them. 3) So the solution is "give them to charity". The problem here is that the litigious nature of modern America means that they will absolutely be sued when some moron chokes on a pecan chunk. It's not worth the risk. 4) The next step is to argue "The law needs to hold Krispy Kreme guiltless if they give away their extra food." That all sounds fine and well, BUT I guarantee that the city will have a whole list of rules a food donation has to follow to be immune from lawsuits. And Krispy Kreme has clueless teenagers throwing out the donuts, so they will absolutely fail to follow all the rules. 5) the only way this could readily work in the USA without being crushed under the burden of bureaucracy or lawsuits would be if each individual Krispy Kreme had a specific charity who came by at night to pick up the extra donuts. People they knew and trusted. Get rid of the lawyers and allow for common sense and that food can be donated lightning fast.
Molly🎧🏳️‍🌈@RasberryRazz

France made this wastefulness illegal cause it’s cruel and only causes more waste issues. Any food market or restaurant over 400 square meters has to donate all their good unsold food to charities and are fined if they do anything like this. That law should be applied everywhere

@gregbradyx Do people understand, if Canada joined the EU, including accepting "freedom of movement", it means that any refugee who arrives on the shores of Greece or Italy, can be on a plane, and land in Toronto, will full rights to stay.

I come across SO many people. They're in my inner circle, semi-inner circle, outer circle, at the gym, fellow parents, people who text the show - I've never had one interaction, let alone conversation (not one - not this year, not last year, not at thousands of Ajax doors), where someone even mildly opined "Canada should join the European Union". Not the most sane person, not the most loony person, not the person that is indifferent to Trump, not the person who despises Trump & can't focus on a single other important thing. I've not had one 10 second convo w/ anyone about Canada joining the EU. So I have no idea who these people are.....deadly serious.

In Swedish this tool is called a "cowfoot" (kofot), which makes perfect sense because it's clearly looks like a hoof. In English it's called a crowbar which makes no sense, smaller crowbars are sometimes called cats paw and honestly that's not much better. The Finnish word for it is "Sorkkarauta" (hoof iron) which is probably the most descriptive name for it.

@fandompulse If he wants to make a film that's a cautionary tale about the extremes of crony capitalism and government run by corporate special interest -- that's great. But that's not Animal Farm.

Andy Serkis explains what his Animal Farm movie is about: "It couldn't be more relevant than today. And history repeats itself. And although Orwell was writing about totalitarianism in particularly in Russia in 1945, 1946 this book hold up as an incredible distillation of what it is to be oppressive, what it is to face authoritarianism. And what we've done is we've contemporized it. We wanted to make it for—. There hadn't been a retelling of this that really connects with a modern audience. So we've couched it in such a way that it feels like a family film. But the themes, the dark themes are all there. They're all present. The Orwellian nature of it is incredibly powerful under the surface, but we've smuggled the politics in so that it's a debate that can be opened up between young people and families and old. It's really watchable by everyone from 8 to 80." Does this make you want to see this or run from it as fast as you can?

@UziCryptoo The US income tax standard deduction is a fixed dollar amount that reduces your taxable income, allowing taxpayers to avoid itemizing expenses. For the 2025 tax year, it is $15,750 for singles, $31,500 for married couples filing jointly, and $23,625 for heads of household.

@FiftyFootNest I heard somewhere that eliminating inter-provincial trade barriers would produce a $90-120 billion annual increase in GDP. That would pay $4.5 billion in GST every year.

On cutting gas taxes Gary Mason is concerned over the potential $3.5B "hole" in the budget. He asks "where's that money going to come from?" Slash $1.4B from CBC & we're half way there. Canadians will tell you affording a home and eating is more important than anything CBC does.

@Sassafrass_84 I got invited to a friends place for dinner at 6pm. I showed up just before 6. Some others had already arrived, and other people arrived at 6. At 6:15pm we had dinner. It's not that complicated. Show up early or on time.

My biggest pet peeve: What time is dinner, Christy? Me: 6pm. Inlaws: Ok Me: See ya then. (Knowing they won't be here on time.) Currently 6:45. Kids:" I hate when they dont value our time. It's like this every holiday."(Last time they showed up 2 and a half hours late) Me: "They work a farm. Sometimes, it's like that." In my head: It's still rude. They can never be on time even when they don't have chickens. But holding my tongue. Biggest pet peeve. Never on time.

@KlendathuCap Amazon/MGM has already been making noises about wanting a sequel/franchise. Most movie studios seem to follow up a hit movie by doubling the budget for a sequel, which might break even, and then turn it into a trilogy which wrecks everything.
