Our two dogs were in our bedroom this evening and the youngest, Murphy, grabbed Haley’s inhaler off her nightstand and punctured the canister. Quick Google search and we learned quickly how poisonous and toxic Albuterol can be for dogs. We made it to the emergency room in under 30 minutes and she’s now under close monitoring with mild sedatives and fluids to lower her heart rate and stabilize blood pressure. They’re keeping her overnight and we’ll get updates tomorrow morning. My wife has been around dogs her entire life while dealing with asthma and neither of us knew how life threatening it can be for dogs. Sharing this for visibility for those with pets who were unaware of the dangers of inhalers being left in open spaces and in reach like ours was tonight. Pictured here is Murphy’s brother, Gary. He wasn’t the one who punctured the inhaler and wasn’t showing signs of illness but we had him examined to be safe. He got the green light to come home with us but I’m sure he’ll be unsettled all night wondering where his sister is. His parents will be too. Hug your pets tonight for us and don’t make the same mistake we did. 🤝
