Homeless guy steals copper wire to fence for his day’s worth of fent. He gets $50. Causes $2,000 in damage. There is no consequence for him. We are a serious country.

@PrinceVogel @tautologer From a Christian perspective, humans are made in the image of God, and are driven to seek the moral law. LLMs are made in the image of Man, and so coincidentally relate to that same law, but another type of AI might not.

@PrinceVogel @tautologer Think there's some reverse causality here - a natural law type thing where right morality is conducive to societies flourishing -> selection effect, besides more advanced societies discovering moral law. The "morality" that leads to an advanced AI flourishing may be alien.

people who don't believe the Orthogonality Thesis: do you believe that there is a rational argument that you could present to Ted Bundy that would convince him that killing people is wrong, such that he no longer was motivated to do it?

I'm on the peptide train. After a week of BPC-157 (8 injections, 500mcg subcutaneous abdominal), persistent ankle tendon pain from a snowboarding injury a year ago is barely noticeable, and ankle mobility is significantly improved. Chronic tech neck and shoulder pain is also much less present. No other significant lifestyle changes. Will still be on this cycle another 11 weeks, but seems positive with no observable side effects so far. Yesterday I added TB-500 (1 injection, 2mg) as well, and in a week or two, I plan to add GHK-Cu assuming the first two are well-tolerated. I also plan to move to local injections of BPC-157 near injury sites while continuing systemically.

@Chris_arnade After 30 years you manage to get some fruit. The nutmeg has no flavor.

@Chris_arnade 10 years of your servants stoking the greenhouse heater and spraying misters until your nutmeg tree could even potentially bear fruit, and then it probably doesn't and you're not sure why. You adjust the temperature and it dies instead. 10 more years. It's cheaper to ship.

Hello Japanese X. While all my American friends are asleep, I have a question for you. What is the strangest topping you have seen on a pizza in Japan? This is a safe space, no judgement.

@Cpt_TAKAHASHI Yakitori is also excellent, it's just a different approach. You should also be proud of the history of Kobe / waygu. American BBQ, the texture is more like stewed pork belly but with a crispy outside.

As a reminder: - The trials show seed oils are fine - The genetic evidence shows they're fine - The observational evidence shows they're fine The contrary evidence is animal studies, mechanistic reasoning, and incautious inferences from old studies without clear relevance.
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil

Seed oils: Are they even correlated with bad health? I assembled ALL of the available NHANES data and linked as much as possible of it to the National Death Index and found that... It's not. Seed oils aren't even correlated with problems.

I don’t like bringing it up because I don’t want to talk about it much. But there’s a heavy darkness here in America to the point where my neighbors, coworkers, people are opening up about things so dark and scary that I’m worried.

@BigJonnyQuest @WhatsAppTeto 90% of windows market share is because of active directory and excel, windows is the farm equipment. Plasma UI / UX is currently better than windows in almost every way. Windows Settings situation is atrocious.

@neosborin @MartinShkreli This stuff's demand / logistics limited, not limited by manufacturing capacity, they're just making both now. One lab could make enough fent analog for the whole US.

@CREID2852 @robinhanson I'm living in a clannish country and there is no clear distinction, there are often still revenge killings even if compensation is paid, just at a later date, though it does help defuse things sometimes. It's a terrible system & I'm very skeptical you can have one w/o the other.

@robinhanson Here I disagree - Suing for blood money seems better to me. When was this history of Big Clan suing for blood money? Most Big Clans came at you for blood in history.
