@arvidkahl I enjoy my @trainwithTempo smart home gym. They've made incremental improvements to their form tracking and weight recommendations - love that it doesn't take up much room, just need a tv, iphone and heart rate tracker. tempo.fit/move

Okay, enough sitting in front of a computer, slowly atrophying. Dog walks aren't enough. I'm building a home gym. What should I start with?

@whlteXbread Not on its own, completely agree. But we need to bring out the best of the machines and the best of the people - put another way, there is no way humans can process all the variables and no way machines could process all the emotions.

Modeling infrastructure, weather, coordination, etc for effective forest fire fighting is ripe for GenAI. In fire season, resources are thin and these strategy briefings seem like war rooms, where every second counts #Alexandermountainfire fb.watch/tHzx9vdd9G/

@tylertringas Always had luck finding people via WOM and dev communities, specific to stack. I'm not sure the big job postings work for any company size - always too much noise. Definitely room for a better solution - market is flooded with great talent right now.

How are small/bootstrapped/calm companies recruiting software engineers these days? My general sense is this is getting more difficult and the standard playbook (job boards listings) less and less effective. What do you think?

@tylertringas @calmfund Such a bummer - appreciate your thesis and perseverance to take it this far. I look forward to see how this evolves. Thanks

Today I'm announcing that @calmfund is pausing our investing & fund activities. I've come to the conclusion that the investment thesis absolutely works, but the business model (of raising micro-funds and building a company off mgmt fees) just does not.

Been contemplating this a lot lately - almost every professional success I've ever had, was because I wrote. I wrote a lot-almost never to get attention of someone else, but to get my own attention, by formulating my thoughts, discovering patterns and making space to be present.

I’m putting this on the timeline so that we all know precisely when I introduced a new word, a new way. Introducing, knolly. Knolly = knowledge. Knolly is brain 🧠 food 🍭 (but healthy). You get your Knolly from books, PDFs, pods, videos, papers, links, and what else? Remember this. Bookmark this. Watch this. Feel free to start saying knolly, you trendsetters.

@HornIT Time, even enjoyable chores are hard to accurately quantify. After paying for my cabin air filter replacement at my last oil change, I was annoyed but super grateful when I had to turn around and have them completely clean out the clakety sound from debris slipping into blower.

Strongly rejected JiffyLube’s offer to replace my cabin filter for $45, but noted it looked pretty bad. Spent $30 for one at O’Reilly’s and as I’m REMOVING MY GLOVE COMPARTMENT, considered the extra $15 may have been worth it. 😂

@rumjahn I think these are all spot on - I read the Surrender Experiment at the end of 2022 and it's wisdom gave me the biggest lesson I continually found value in this year: truly life changing to reframe how we accept the opportunities life gives us

Lessons I learned in 2023 1. Make decisions faster. My mentor asked me what I would do in 6 months for a certain scenario. I told him what I'd do then he said "do it now". He was right. If I could go back in time, I'd almost always make the decision faster. Somehow, our intuition is often right. 2. Invert. Always invert. When in a pinch, I just invert the scenario. Instead of asking how do we make more money, I'd ask what 3 things do I need to do to kill the company? 3. Data informed, not data driven. Data can help you find the local maxima but not the global maxima. 4. Slow down to speed up When stuck, more effort gives diminishing results. Sometimes a break can help make giant breakthrough. 5. Don't stop learning I paid for a few courses this year and it's been super inspiring. Really helps with burnout and gives me motivation to apply what I learned. What lessons did you learn?

Wow, thats a substantial fine print change for new businesses to easily collect payment on invoices. At a 1% fee that means a $10k invoice goes from $10 to $15 for existing accounts, and $100 for any new businesses. Shouldn't the cost of moving money be going down?

@JeromySonne THX! was thinking of that or Involve.me - its mind boggling because the content side of these tools are really static/designed for forms. Had hoped Coda.io might be the solution (being more content centric), but engagement requires a login :(

Goal: Send out a deck that has ways to engage the recipients on each slide(ie. quiz, emojis, ask questions, leave feedback). Preferred that the recipient does not need to create an account or login, just fill out a contact form. This has to exist right? What am I missing?
