I understand Tavares can no longer drive his own line, especially at 5v5. However, this is still a very valuable player with a 4.4M.

@leafs_truth @Huddy1813068023 Lou could not extend Matthews or Marner. The apprentice could have signed Matthews & Marner before pursing JT as a UFA. Should have told JT to wait for deal until kids extended.
Lou would have had Nylander sign a bridge or sit. Apprentice gave into Willy.

The bigger failure was Lou not signing Nylander a year early, and Dubas not already having a deal in place for Marner and Matthew's for July 1st, before signing Tavares.
If those signings happened, the Tavares signing (which only looked somewhat bade because of Covid), would not have been a trend setter.
So the failures occurred long before signing Tavares.

That Choice can be argued fine
but the Results and the chasing of that window with assist for years is a fact

On William Villeneuve & recall, I reported a few months ago what I heard from Leafs sources in that Villeneuve wasn't a top option for Brad Treliving, who prioritized his own additions rather than the Dubas-drafted Villeneuve. Now that Treliving is gone, Villeneuve moves up.

@LeafsUpdates21 I get people complaining about JT as a 2C. And I agree, they would be better served as having him as a 3C or top 6 winger.
But given the 2C's available, you could do a lot worse than JT as your 2C.
