The playoff result has maybe let some forget how much of an achievement Partick Thistle’s season was. The manager saga, a dismantled team and limited budget had some even tipping them for relegation. Mark Wilson deserves immense credit for the job he’s done since taking over 👏

@DrawLoseOrDraw Thought Reading & McPherson were excellent in the semis, Watt excellent in the finals, and Ashcroft great throughout. In general this season is the most confident I’ve been in our back line, great positioning, many shots blocked. Fitzy’s G/A shouldn’t go unnoticed too

Days like today are when a playoff final should be, not 8pm on a bank holiday! An excuse to also mention the need for a system change in the Premiership playoffs. Neutral venue or have the Championship team at home 2nd, unfair the way the Premiership side are favoured so much.

8,323 at Firhill tonight, another superb turnout. Also massive credit to those that prepared the display, an absolutely incredible effort and it looked brilliant. Just shows what clubs across Scotland are capable of 👏

I am surprised the interviewer did not press this point further. It is certainly not true that he does not use email. He just has people do it for him. To say he does not use email is like saying a meat eater has never killed an animal even though the person eats buffalo wings every night. It is a statement that is at best meaningless and at worst dishonest. If I had dozens of people working for me and millions of dollars I too would swear off email. This has nothing to do with any special insight but a lot of privilege and resources. It means someone books his flights, deals with bureaucracy (much of which happens by email) pays for the things he buys or orders, deals with the paperwork (much of which happens by email). If he had to look for a job, or work in any office, or apply for a visa he would not be able to say this. It is irritating to see a journalist completely fall for this as if it was some sign of virtue. Which major celebrity is typing emails themselves?

@immasters @TheLaurenChen If your aim is to reduce suffering of plants, the going vegan is the best course. Eating meat requires far more plant death than being vegan. Not to mention improving biodiversity, reducing animal suffering

@TheLaurenChen A common argument against eating meat is that animals are sentient but plants aren't. "Brilliant Green" by Mancuso & Viola shows plants are intelligent, aware, and can process info, remember, and communicate.

@sibaburck @michal_ptacnik I hope this will be the case, but I do worry that there have been decades of “if the new alternative looks/tastes/feels just like meat, people will switch” and each time there’s a new “beyond” or “impossible” burger people don’t switch.

@michal_ptacnik I agree with this actually. Lab meat (they call it clean meat now for better branding) is the most likely path to a vegan world. But this is still people voluntarily switching to a slaughter alternative.

Can a leftist explain to me how we create a vegan world without individuals voluntarily giving up meat?

If a Green candidate called for Jews to be melted down and used to fill pot holes, Keir Starmer would call a Cobra meeting and proscribe the Green Party, but a Reform candidate can say that about Nigerians and silence. This is what we mean when we say there is a racism hierarchy.

Why would I care that a replica of my mind is semi-immortal. I don't worry that the world would miss me so dearly after my death. I worry about my conscious experience being extinguished. Is there any reason "mind uploading" would ensure continuity of consciousness?

But you also have a million for potatoes, million for beans, million for apples, one for tomatoes, hell, twenty for strawberry alone.

If plants were sentient, that would make the moral case for veganism significantly stronger.

@AbdelgabarKarem @Joyous__Jasmine @Absurd_Ruka @angedipus Yes it will increase the share of the pie chart, but the amount of plants which the entire chart relates to will decrease. The share of the pie will be larger, but the size of the pie will be so much smaller as to more than negate that increase in real amounts
