@neal_katyal @WalshFreedom Exactly right. You don’t need to agree on political viewpoints to recognize that Trump is beneath the dignity of the office/not up to the job and needs to be replaced by a competent Republican or Democrat. #TimeToResign, #WeAreBetterThanThis

@antonioguterres What a biased bigot - no message to Iran not to use cluster munitions and target civilian populations indiscriminately? You do realize that’s a war crime, don’t you?

I have two clear messages: First, to the United States & Israel: It’s high time to end this war that is risking to get out of control, causing immense suffering on civilians, with dramatic effects on the global economy & potentially tragic consequences, especially for the least developed countries. Second, my message to Iran: Stop attacking your neighbors, they were never parties to the conflict. The Security Council has condemned these attacks, has ordered them to stop, as it has order to open the Strait of Hormuz. The prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz causes enormous pain for so many people around the world who have nothing to do with this conflict. It’s time for the force of the law to prevail over the law of the force. It’s time for diplomacy to prevail over war. My remarks from the European Council in Brussels: un.org/sg/en/content/…

@mattklewis Wrong again Matthew. Rubio was talking about decision to preemptively strike and later clarified (as Trump did) that Trump independently determined US military action was necessary. What say you?

What say you @ZohranKMamdani? Show the world you care about the plight of Palestinians, particularly when they are indiscriminately attacked by Muslims (which, as you know, happens frequently and is a real problem).
Amit Segal@AmitSegal

I wonder if, after the murder of six Palestinians tonight in Hebron by an Iranian missile, there will be protests on campuses. I wonder if Mamdani will condemn it. I wonder if Al Jazeera will go into a frenzy. So interesting.

I fear @vali_nasr is right. When I met Ali Larijani I found him an absolute insider kingpin of the Iranian regime -- but also the kind of strong and pragmatic leader who just might be able to hammer out a peace deal. Not sure, but I wonder if the war will now be harder to end.

I took down my tweet on Iran & Larijani because it was being interpreted wrongly. As Donald Trump has hinted himself, the US may need someone to negotiate with. No good talking to a headbanger — and Larijani, though guilty of all sorts of crimes, clearly wasn’t one of those.

The tired, relentless attempt to equate opposition to the Israeli government with antisemitism isn't just wrong and offensive, it's a badly failing political strategy that has hurt the fight against a very real threat to Jewish people. No one buys this shit beyond the most hardcore supporters of the Israeli government.
Haley Cohen@HaleyCohen19

New from me: Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, called out two Democratic lawmakers, Chris Van Hollen & Ro Khanna, from the main stage of the organization’s Never is Now conference in Manhattan, accusing them of perpetuating antisemitism.  jewishinsider.com/2026/03/jonath…

Indeed. Larijani was also a well-regarded professor of philosophy specializing in Kant with several books to his name. He really knew his way around the German philosophical bookshelf. And he was a key architect of the massacre of tens of thousands of his own people, and since Khamenei's death the de facto power behind the throne of a tyrannical regime that has systematically gutted Iran for 47 long years. He was the very thing that had to be pushed aside if we are to have any hope of a different future.

Vali Nasr@vali_nasr

Larijani’s replacement will be appointed by IRGC. With every assassination U.S. and Israel engineering greater radicalization of Iran’s leadership. It will makes for a bleak future for Iran, Iranians, the region and ultimately makes it far more difficult for U.S. to disentangle itself from endless conflict in the region.

NCTC director Kent resigns over war in Iran, and as with some prominent MAGA commentators blames the whole thing on Israel, all but absolving the president of the decision. It's notable how little agency certain folks give the most powerful elected official in the world.
Joe Kent@joekent16jan19

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

For those waking up on the East Coast: With the overnight strike (Jerusalem time), Israeli sources say Israel targeted and killed Ali Larijani - head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and, in very real terms, a central power broker in the regime and a key manager of the war effort - along with Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij, the regime’s militia responsible for systematic civilian repression. Iran has not confirmed any of these deaths. The strike itself points to deep Israeli intelligence penetration inside Iran, and suggests that the regime’s ability to sustain command and control may be more limited than it appears. All were personally associated with the violent suppression and killing of tens of thousands of demonstrators over the years. They were reportedly hit in covert locations together with other high-ranking members of the ruling regime.
