@brucefenton @um_felipe From a stupid take to a stupid list. Look, you were incredibly gullible and got played the fool. You can be a big boy and admit it or you can watch us slide into authoritarianism and pretend this isn’t the darkest timeline. Grow up, stop being the fool

Lots of folks replying & asking why Kamala/ Walz would have been worse than Trump. Imho it’s not even close. I think Trump has been a terrible disappointment and alienated all but the most mindless of his Always Trumpers base. But of course Kamala would have been worse: - with Kamala we’d have the same grifting and corruption as Trump, the same self serving, self dealing enrichment schemes, but we’d also have a more broad coalition of cronies and even more overall graft and waste - we’d have much more censorship- as show by the actions by Biden’s handlers - we’d have even more tyranny, abuse of the DOJ & Federal government as we saw with the 1-6 protesters - those 1-6 protestors would still be in jail, as would Ross Ulbricht - more political opposition would have likely joined them and we’d see massive crackdowns on the right in the name of stopping “right wing domestic terrorism” - we’d have the establishment media in pure lockstep -instead of challenging her they’d be cheering - combined with censorship we’d only see one side - we’d have even higher taxes and more spending and even bigger government - we’d have even more regulation g and out of control agencies like the SEC and others harming business and jobs - we’d have socialist style economic stupidity - we’d be doubling down on trans and other social insanity and Church of Woke scientism - as with Trump she would have continued America Second polices - we’d have even more global turmoil and a much worse situation with Russia possibly bordering on WWIII There are many other reasons but it’s not even close Trump is terrible but the better of the two options

Trump wasn’t my first choice. He wasn’t my second choice or third choice either. Like millions of others I reluctantly supported him because the alternative was even worse. I still believe Kamala/ Walz would have been extremely destructive to our country and much worse than Trump. Many felt this way and supported him reluctantly and because he ran on a platform of peace. Trump has now torched the “broad coalition” who elected him. He has a long track record of demanding loyalty as a one way street. Massie endorsed Trump. Of the two there is absolutely no comparison. Trump is inconsistent, divisive, narcissistic, self centered, grifting for family financial gain and easily swayed because he has few principles and little to no depth. This is why he’s been consistently fooled into doing stupid things like expanding the swamp with a Big Ugly Bill, listening to neocons like Lindsay Graham, calling for more gun control, making America Second / covering for Epstein and pushing Operation Warp Speed and propping up Fauci instead of firing him. Massie was against all these blunders when it was unpopular to do so. Massie is consistently pro America, pro liberty and an actual Constitutional conservative who speaks truth and has more depth and character than almost anyone in office. There is no comparison at all.

@JoyceCarolOates The world is complex. Those who study it reasonably objectively should reach diverse conclusions. Yet social science & humanitarian departments don't merely lack conservatives. They are ideologically narrow, and that narrow band shifts lockstep over time.

why is that, do you think? educated people tend to have views that uneducated people do not. you may find that, at a research university, faculty have actually done research. if you're looking for your prejudices to be confirmed, why go to a university? you have church, Fox News.
Arete@Arete51391049

Genuinely not trying to be disrespectful here, but I think it's you who are naive, @JoyceCarolOates. The hard sciences are a different story, but the social sciences are chock-full of very liberal professors. Find me a Sociology department at any university that has more than one or two conservatives, if that. You seem to feel that conservative students want their views 'affirmed.' They don't. They just want an atmosphere of open civil debate, and don't want to be punished for those views.

@CoasianBargain @JoyceCarolOates Methinks you just vomited out some words at the end. In what ways are social sciences and humanities ideologically narrow? What does it actually even mean for a narrow band to “shift lockstep over time?”

but if you want distinguished faculty in physics, math, biology, arts, history--you are not going to find these among a contingent that, in essence, is anti-intellectual & anti-science. a great university like UC-Berkeley certainly has conservative faculty members but if so, they are genuinely experts in their field; they were not hired to present "other views." this notion that education is indoctrination is very naive & makes virtually no sense if you are teaching at a university. people concentrate on their own work & students are enrolled to learn something. if what they need to "learn" is indoctrination, they can get that from a church or Fox News. but don't enroll at a great university hoping for confirmation of what you already believe.
ArianeArboreneAuthor@arboreneauthor

@JoyceCarolOates I think it’s unfair to tell a kid trying to get the best college Ed they can afford that if the professorate there leans Liberal & will expect students to see things the way their professors do, that that kid should look elsewhere. Let faculty be more accepting of other views.

@SohrabAhmari @ThaddeusRussell He was an ICE agent. Do ICE agents have legal rights to detain American citizens? Because if you want to try to find one point where this should have been handled correctly it would be when ICE tried to illegally detain an American citizen. Or do those laws not matter?

I don't know how many were fired from the side. But what I do know is, once cops decide to use lethal force, they use, well, lethal force. Not to the arms, not to the legs---that's from the movies. But to the head and chest. Often over and over. So the only meaningful determination is whether the use of force was justified in the first place.

MAGAts do not sincerely believe it's self-defense, they just find it incredibly thrilling to see a cop-as-proxy execute a woman they've decided is an ideological enemy. It's a pure crystallization of their deepest desires and seeing it for them is akin to religious revelation.
Dan Green@DanGreenMN

Anyone claiming this is “self defense” clearly has no idea what they are talking about. This is the angle when the first shot was fired. ICE just shot and killed an American citizen.

I'm not sure the point of the frame by frame analysis of this execution. Why is a masked cop drawing down on a 37 yo lady in a Honda Pilot? Fed agents shouldn't pull guns on a middle aged woman unless she's a violent criminal or aiming a weapon at them. Just let her drive away

I will add to this assessment, based on the officer at the doors inability to maintain his footing the roadway appears to be significantly icy, which would have prevented the officer in front of the vehicle (the firing officer) from being able to even try to get out of the way of the offending vehicle. Justified shooting.

Prior MP here. She backs up. She turns her wheels toward the agent in front and proceeds forward. At this point, the vehicle is a weapon, and opening fire becomes self-defense. She FAFO. I would have done the same.

Here is my opinion on Minneapolis killing by ICE officer, and facts still matter.⚖️ ICE agents are federal law enforcement, but their authority and use of force are limited by the Constitution. A US citizen cannot be detained for immigration purposes, and fleeing alone is not a legal justification for deadly force under Supreme Court precedent. Deadly force is lawful only when an officer reasonably believes there is an immediate threat of death or serious bodily harm. That standard comes from Graham v. Connor and Tennessee v. Garner, and it applies to ICE the same as to any armed federal agent. In the Minnesota case, multiple videos show agents initiating the encounter, surrounding the vehicle, giving conflicting commands, and escalating the situation. One agent attempted to open the car door while others shouted instructions. The woman in a car, a US born citizen, appeared to behave frightened and confused. Video shows her backing up to avoid an agent positioned near the front side of the vehicle, then turning the steering wheel away from him in an apparent attempt to disengage. The agent who ultimately fired had apparently already drawn his weapon before the car moved forward. An officer placing themselves in a dangerous position, creating confusion, and then claiming fear does not automatically meet the constitutional threshold for lethal force. This case is not about immigration. It is about escalation, officer-created danger, and whether deadly force was objectively reasonable. Law enforcement does not get a constitutional exemption simply because propaganda moves faster than the truth. You can see clearly in the video that agent is pulling the gun while she is still backing up to make a maneuver to avoid hitting the agent and simply leave.

@TheNashvillian @belafleckbanjo Compared to these other idiots, you at least have a thoughtful question. In the Kennedy Center flap, Trump is driven by his admittedly large ego, while these artists are motivated by their political hatred of him. There is a difference.
