i accidentally discovered one of the coolest features on the internet the Wikipedia app has a "nearby" feature that shows wikipedia articles around your location! i opened it and instantly fell into a rabbit hole of random places, local history and weird things around me try it and tell me what shows up near you

Dusted off an old Android phone and joined it to my tailnet. Installed @termux (+API), added SSH keys, tweaked process killing behavior… and now I can remotely control it! Next: Tasker. Kudos to @marshallrichrds for showing what’s possible!

@Siron93 Asking for a review before getting any actual value is crazy. Pretty sure it has to do with the fact the combination of niche, cute artwork and long onboarding builds trust in the user’s mind.

Olive makes $150,000/month from a food scanner app. A warm, illustrated brand led by a friendly mascot. • 17-step onboarding with fear-based messaging • collects allergies, restrictions, specific additives • asks for a rating before you've even used the app • 3-screen paywall sequence • value demo → trial reminder → pricing • free trial locked to yearly plan • monthly is the decoy • CTA says "Try for $0.00" • account creation happen after you've already paid

This is probably best fixed with BLE proximity enforcement: if you are reachable via Bluetooth, then you're allowed in. Of course, this comes at the cost of extra engineering and user friction...

The sad truth is that there's no cheap way to solve this. If this particular geofence was actually validated server side, you could probably spoof the location using overrides (DevTools > Sensors). The apartment location is public info, so you'd know exactly the coords to feed.

I could unlock my Airbnb from anywhere in the world. The smart lock had a geofencing feature to prevent remote access... which only worked in CSS. 🧵
