There are more than 3,000 Metrolinx employees on the sunshine list this year who pull in a total of $410,117,370 in salaries and 1,720,710 in benefits. In March 2023, Metrolinx reported a total headcount of 6,000 employees. About half the workforce earns six figures. #onpoli

@ColinDMello I think we need to adjust the Sunshine List to match inflation. $100k really isn't what it used to be, but we still use $100k as the threshold. For clarity, $100k in 1996 dollars (when the list started) is about $180k today. How many Metrolinx employees make $180k+?

@ColinDMello So they’re earning liveable wages for the cities they live and work in. More people should be earning that much, not fewer.

@ColinDMello It's funny that people think the threshold for this list should be increased, if anything it should be decreased - this is taxpayer money, that's called accountability. At least most of these jobs will be replaced with low-cost AI within the next 2-5 years 😉

@ColinDMello This says far less about how Metrolinx pays its employees than it does about how much everyone else must be getting underpaid that this is shocking. $100k is not what it was 5 years ago, let alone 30

@ColinDMello Average is $136K/year in salary alone. And for half their workforce to be earning in that range strongly suggests something is very wrong - either the org is grossly top-heavy or there's a LOT of grift happening here. Either way, it's not a good look.

@ColinDMello I get people being peeved because yes it’s taxpayers money, but let’s stop pretending $100k is a lot of money, or even something worth publicly posting

@ColinDMello I keep saying it - fire the lot of them. Really - we are in year 13 building this ridiculous LRT. By the time they finish, the trains and rails will be so obsolete we'll need to dig the thing up and start over again!!

@ColinDMello And so what? You don’t like workers being paid properly? You prefer to see people suffering and struggling? I want to see worker wages go up and CEO and leadership wages to take a hit. Eff tweets like this aiming to turn people against public sector workers

@ColinDMello You should see the sad state of Brampton Transit, people left at the stops; massive over crowding and everything is dirty or breaking apart. I have tried to talk to anyone other than their customer service but they refuse to talk. Must be nice to be so protected.

@ColinDMello Now let’s see what those people who are saying people deserve a living wage have to say about teachers on the sunshine list - the hypocrisy.

@ColinDMello Ahhh the sunshine list. My favourite time of year. All the broke Uber drivers come onto twitter to complain. Meanwhile it's a threshold that was used like thirty years ago.

@ColinDMello $100K a year is a living wage in the GTA if you have a family, mortgage, and car payment. Let’s stop pretending that the Sunshine list is representative of those living high on the hog off public funds. It’s a place to look up the salaries of teachers, cops, and firefighters.

@ColinDMello Has the threshold for high earnings value ever been adjusted for this list? $100k doesn't have the same value each year and is certainly less powerful than it was in the 90s.
