So farmer fell over a week ago and went splatt on his front, damaging in particular his left knee. Yesterday said knee was swollen, red and painful. I took him to MIU and we said we thought it was an infection and that he’s immunocompromised (he’s on rheumatoid meds) 1

Triage nurse didn’t think it was an infection. Second nurse thought maybe he had broken or fractured part of his knee. They sent us to the urgent treatment centre, which was closed and we had to go to A&E. They too made nothing of his immunocompromised status…. 2

Nor did they make much of us thinking it was an infection. Because you know, what do we know. We’re not medically trained and have only lived with this condition and its problems for over twenty years. So the leg kept swelling, his pain kept growing for 12 hours. 3

Their concern was primarily about the amount of pain meds he takes, even though it’s fine with his consultant. Anyway we get to 9am and over twelve hours later. Dr sees him, no breaks on X-ray but they think there’s an infection in the knee. 4

Hey re going back and forth a little bit with diagnosis. Infection in knee or cellulitis, he needs to see another consultant. Sounds like he needs IV antibiotics and to stay in for a couple of days. I’ve come home to get him some bits. I will update when I know any more. 5

@muddymuddymum So you were right about the infection. They don’t like you knowing what’s wrong with you when they don’t. Even if you’ve had a problem for years. Years ago I insisted that I had a serious problem when they disagreed. I developed sepsis within 24 hours.
