This is a ridiculous take. The government was pushing a green energy, environment friendly initiative and Tesla was the only company pushing to make EVs. That was the only way they were going to make electric vehicles the new automotive staple. Which was the forefront of the green energy push. NASA was also blowing through cash like a siv. SpaceX’s ideas were so advanced and cheap comparatively, that NASA and the U.S government needed SPaceX’s services to advance the U.S space exploration & satellite growth of the country. His companies aligned with the U.S goals. Micron, intel, Amazon, Alcoa, Cheniere, GM, Texas Instruments, Boeing, Ford, Disney… I can go on and on have received BILLIONS of dollars from the government. The government has and will always help companies that help the governments own agenda. To say he’s only a trillionaire because the government is nonsense. He is a trillonaire because he choose to take stock ownership in the companies either than high salary betting on himself and the companies he was building. Government funding helped as it does for all companies making good strides for America. But to sit around and claim his success is U.S tax payer funded is far from the truth. You should be ashamed of yourself this is just a smear campaign.

Ed, the U.S. has saved approximately $40 Billion by hiring SpaceX. The fuel efficiency alone is mind boggling. In addition, between Elon Musk personally (est. $11 Billion) and his employees ($20 Billion), over $30 Billion a year is returned in taxes. And still you are not happy 🙄

The government didn’t “give” Elon’s companies money. They loaned money to accelerate EV production, which was paid off. They also awarded contracts to his companies just like they award contracts to thousands of companies. He just happened to be the best at delivering on promises. The federal government gave $158Billion in solar subsidies and over 100 companies that received that money filed BK. Relax bro

You have no children and have almost never had a real full-time job as an adult. You've sponged off the taxpayer for more than a half century, making America worse. Your only legacy will be destruction. Elon's legacy is building some of the greatest-ever American companies, employing hundreds of thousands of people and transforming numerous industries. Respectfully, @EdMarkey this isn't really that complicated to understand. When funds are *GIVEN* for services or products, the money does NOT stay with the provider of the money. The money is TRANSFERRED FROM the provider of the funds to the recipient. You know, the entity accepting the funds. From a US Senator, we all expect better from you. This dog and pony show to influence US citizens with lack of knowledge in these matters is at best disengenous.
