Think about what this means. Out of every country in the world — Japan chose India as the one that deserves its own dedicated office. I moved to India few years ago when most Japanese business people were still asking “Why India?” Today, that question has changed. It’s no longer “Why India?” It’s “How do we move faster?” And I understand why. India is on track to become the world’s fourth-largest economy, potentially overtaking Japan itself by 2026. The market is enormous. The talent is world-class. The energy is unlike anywhere else I’ve lived. But here’s what I also know on the ground: Japanese companies that wait to “study” India from Tokyo will fall behind the ones that actually come and feel it. No report captures what a morning in Bengaluru teaches you. No presentation replaces a conversation with an IIT engineer. No strategy deck substitutes for actually being here. When I speak to Japanese companies, I always say the same thing: Come. See it yourself. Then decide. The Japanese government just made its decision.
