Seven new BOEC employees graduated from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards & Training program in Salem with 911 professionals from around the state. They took classes on ethics, call handling, criminal law, stress first aid + more! Congrats class BT153!

Last year was a big one for our Outreach & Recruitment program. The BOEC Outreach Team presented at more than 29 different events! We opened two recruitments, resulting in more than 500 applicants!

In the past year, we have held three in-house academies. That’s 28 new hires! We’ve also developed new curriculum, including a class on adult learning. And we’ve developed programs to support our new hires, with skill building curriculum including improved typing.

We’ve come a long way over the last year! Between 7pm and 5am on New Years’ Eve, we had a 25% reduction in 911 calls. With the help of our community and partners at @PDX311, nearly 400 fireworks reports were filed online. More at portland.gov/911/documents/….
