Art James, a 23 year old outfielder from Detroit, started 11 games in the outfield in two stints with the #Tigers as a rookie in 1975. James was the starting right fielder on Opening Day. He hit .225 with no home runs.

@DetTiger40 Never heard this before. Good info. Looks like James missed all of '76 and played the next 3 years in the minors in the Tigers, White Sox, and O's. Remarkably consistent over that time batting 288, 291, and 289. But he seemed to lack a defining tool to get him back to the majors.

Today’s notes: 3/27/26 Kevin McGonigle needs only 4186 hits to become the Tigers all-time hits leader and 4253 to become MLBs all time hit leader. The last time the Tigers started on the road in Southern Cal the team that won the opening game of the series won the World Series.

@CardsCigarbox All things equal I'd prefer my Tigers to open vs an AL team but I think the league should schedule as many March and April games in warm weather (and domes) as possible. So seeing them open vs SD & AZ is weird but I'd rather see that then go from warm FL to there vs cold climate

@mikemayer22 Teams restrict their pitcher's WBC workload now. They'd be even more restrictive in season.

I realize I'm in the minority here, but I don't think playing the WBC in the middle of the season (significantly closer to MLB playoffs) makes more sense than March.
