If one politician is proposing a law to take certain rights away from you, you have the right to vote and even peacefully and legally speak out against them. But just because one politician believes that way or takes such action, does not mean the entire party, entire country or the entire system is out to take away your rights, as many leftists try to claim in order to get support from specific demographics in the elections. Besides, with the issue at hand, that being same-sex marriage, it is problematically administered because hetero marriages are administered at the state level while same-sex marriage legality was established at the federal level by Obama, who is a leftist. But the federal government should not have the power to make such a decision. That is a state issue. Also, I call you a leftist because, judging by your post, you seem to support leftist policies, regardless of your registration.
And, my "bow down and worship" comment is because, while I am a moderate conservative, I am willing and able to sit and talk reasonably with people on both sides of the aisle because I agree with and disagree with certain points on both sides and my ultimate goal is in figuring out what's best for the country as a whole. But unfortunately, these days especially, there is a wave of radicalization and authoritarianism that, while possible on either side, has become prevalent and seriously problematic among the left in Western society.
