@brendan_cubs Jed has a washed bench guy blind spot. They gave Turner 6 mil plus 2.5 incentives. A 40 year old got this. I hate that they aren’t agressive building a bench when they can have their pick of the litter. They always pick up who is left over. Never works.

I clinch every time a throw is not perfect to Turners chest when he’s at first base. I pray he can dunk and hit bloopers like Paredes when he bats. It’s an unenjoyable style of baseball from a team with so much other good going on. They need significantly better results.

Sheesh, I understand Turner is a great clubhouse presence, but it’s been a really grueling watch when he’s at first base and batting. He really needs to start producing results soon.

@SetupManKyle I still am questioning that Smith had to be included. Astros got cost controlled Paredes (an All Star) and Wesneski. Wonder if an OF like Caisse or Alcantara would have been possible. It’s been a good trade for both sides but we have to extend Tucker otherwise it looks silly.

What are we thinking of the Tucker/Cam Smith/Paredes trade, Cubs fans?

The Javier Báez renaissance is one of the coolest stories of the 2025 season. Now hitting .319/.357/.513 with five home runs and 27 RBIs in 34 games. And this walk-off capped a night in which he hit a pair of three-run homers.

@LanceBroz I think it’s only troublesome in the moments where contact was needed. The chase has cost him and the team. Otherwise swing away with how hot he’s been.

I've been fascinated by his ability to cover out of zone with thump (PCA still leads MLB in out-of-zone barrels). I think we're seeing the dark side of that aggression of late ... but the fact that he's still slugging .600+ as the chase has risen makes it ... not so dark?

Pretty clear pitchers are challenging Pete Crow-Armstrong not to chase. Red line is four-seamers seen. Blue line is chase rate. Since April 21, you see those lines separate. "Here are non-fastballs, we bet you will swing." 151 wRC+ since that date, sub-.300 OBP. Electric. ⚡️

@jacobzanolla Jed always leaves a gaping hole on the team. Also, Keller has not been as good as people are trying to give him credit for.

Gage Workman is on this team to play good defense. That's his SECOND error of the game. The first one cost the Cubs three runs. Unacceptable

@DEvanAltman At the same time, if you’re going to try to operate by offering the short term deals - you have to be willing to go this far to make it happen. I’m not saying this was the right move, but if you were in for Bregman - go get him. Can’t have it both ways and use the CBT as a cap.

Any other team acquiring Tucker for essentially 1 year - pushes further in and past the CB thresholds to lock in 90+ wins and the division. Instead we all know Bellinger isn’t staying.

@CubsPSPlus Yeah, that tracks. And it’s even more reason to have pushed payroll higher. It bothers me when people say the Cubs are cheap, but if you want to talk about misallocating the budget…

Going over the CBT threshold by only 6 figures strikes me as a grievous error.

@DavidHaugh For as much as Poles has said you build teams from the inside out - he has sure built from the outside in. Both lines are still a year away with a lot of work to do. All those picks next year are gonna be boring but badly needed.

Sure, bad call will get lots of understandable focus but biggest problem on that drive was #Bears' inability to stop the run without Montez Sweat. That's a problem. Holes too wide, line of scrimmage too easy to control for Cardinals. 14-6.

@setupmanpod The young guys are going to bide their time. Like PCA had to - come up for cups of coffee and prove they can stick. Injuries always happen. These prospects aren’t slam dunks like 2015/16. We have organizational depth. Jed needs to find a star. I’d get Vlad.
