We are inspired by the more than 100 high school and university students from across the country who joined us today in asking Congress to end family detention and support the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act. As students visited congressional offices, they dropped off handmade paper dolls made by children and community members across the country as part of the Paper Dolls to Free Families campaign. Today more than 100 high school and university students from across the country are in D.C. urging their congressmembers to push for accountability for the victims of these horrific boat strikes. Late on Feb. 16, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted three lethal kinetic strikes on three vessels operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessels were transiting along known narco-trafficking routes and were engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Eleven male narco-terrorists were killed during these actions, 4 on the first vessel in the Eastern Pacific, 4 on the second vessel in the Eastern Pacific, and 3 on the third vessel in the Caribbean. No U.S. military forces were harmed. @DeptofWar #OpSouthernSpear

The FBI’s raid of Washington Post journalist, @hannah_natanson's home is deeply concerning and alarming. Over the last year, the Trump administration has targeted journalists and outlets that have reported unfavorably on his administration’s actions. Attempts to silence, intimidate, and sow distrust amongst the media are authoritarian practices. A free press is necessary to hold governments’ accountable to their actions, a critical piece in upholding human rights.

Vermonter and video journalist Dylan Collins: On October 13th, 2023, I was wounded in a targeted double tap attack by Israeli forces on a clearly marked group of journalists in southern Lebanon. We thought the fact that we could be seen was a good thing, that it would protect us. But after a little less than an hour at the site, we were hit twice by tank fire, two shells on the same target—37 seconds apart.

The U.S. military’s repeated air strikes targeting unidentified boats at sea have killed at least 34 people. These strikes are illegal under international human rights law, unconscionable, and dangerous. The use of lethal force in this context has no justification. If the U.S. government can unilaterally decide to bomb anyone it labels a “terrorist”—anywhere, anytim —it sets a chilling global precedent.
