Sorry, there’s no excuses here, Mueller knew exactly what he was doing and why. The fact that when he appeared before Congress at the end, he was in a reduced state, does not excuse him from lending his name, his person, and his credibility to something he knew from the beginning was wrong. He’s the one who hired Weitzman and the crew. They didn’t just appear out of nowhere. Bob and I were both at DOJ during the Regan and Bush 41 years and he was admirable in those days. Why he let himself be used by the Uniparty establishment to get Trump is beyond me. I choose to remember him in our respective youth, but I’m not going back to make excuses and blame others for what he did at the end of his life. That’s on him.

With literally dozens of people to choose from to replace Noem why on earth would Trump make the unfathomable mistake of pulling Mullin from the Senate to make him head of DHS, only to have him replaced by a RINO from his home state? This is shiny object BS meant to distract from a garbage deal that’s about to be rammed down our throats. You cannot do any substantive policy from the SAVE America Act via reconciliation absent 60 votes to waive a ton of points of order. By statute, the reconciliation process prohibits policy provisions with only tangential budget effects. The SAVE America Act will fall under these rules, which are collectively known as the Byrd rule. I’m told Lindsey Graham, a drunken warmonger who seems hell bent on destroying the Trump’s presidency, is who is responsible for pushing this idiotic maneuver.

The GOP and Trump are on the verge of committing political suicide. Why would they ever agree to reforms for ICE when the same agency under every Administration since DHS was created didn’t see the need for such reforms. Can the GOP be any weaker or lack integrity more than it does now? Trump will destroy his legacy forever if he backs down 1 inch on either of clean funding of DHS or passing the SAVE America Act as written. Same with negotiating with Iran on any level that leaves any portion of the regime or the IRGC in control. Iran is not Venezuela. This is the moment that enshrines or destroys the legacy of Presidents. Compromise is what got us into these messes in the first place.

DHS funding deal is falling apart. Senate GOP offered to fund all of DHS, except ICE’s deportation wing (ERO). Dems just countered and demanded additional concessions, they want major ICE reforms (unmasking, judicial warrants, etc). GOP says why would we agree to reforms for an agency being defunded? Dems had an offer on the table to carve out ICE’s removal operations, and fund everything else within DHS, and they are saying no. They are demanding ICE reforms for an agency they aren’t going to fund. GOP saying no. And the shutdown continues - now on day 40.

Nope, just another day in the most corrupt city on earth. Don’t be fooled by comparing us to Third World countries where the corruption is petty and out in the open. The most corrupt city on earth is Washington DC. Always has been and always will be sadly. Our system of government makes correct corruption not only inevitable but institutional. What worked for the founders can’t possibly work in the 21st-century. The people have never been more removed from control over their own government and their destiny in this country.

You're not trying to pass this bill. You're trying to kill it in a way you can blame on process. Here's how we know: Reconciliation requires the Senate parliamentarian to rule that provisions are "budgetary." Citizenship verification is not budgetary. Photo ID mandates are not budgetary. The parliamentarian will gut the bill. Then you'll shrug and say "we tried." We see through you. Meanwhile, you WON'T use the tools that actually work: Rule XIX limits each senator to two speeches per legislative day. Keep the Senate in continuous session, file cloture daily, and the filibuster exhausts in ~12-20 days. You dismissed it as "complicated." Because if you tried and succeeded, you'd have to actually pass the bill. Harry Reid nuked the filibuster in 2013 when he wanted results. Mitch McConnell changed Senate rules THREE times and canceled the August recess. Chuck Schumer used reconciliation within months on a 50-50 Senate. You have 53 seats. You've changed nothing, canceled nothing, and waited eleven months. Every senator will soon be on the record with an up-or-down vote so the American people can know exactly where they stand on voter ID. I don’t know how Democrats will be able to explain being against commonsense voter ID requirements, but I can’t wait to hear them try.

What’s to explain, this is part of their plan to extricate themselves from having to support the base by supporting the SAVE act intact. It was always going to come down to this approach. The level of corruption in the Republican Party’s elected officials in Congress is off the charts.

Maybe @SenJohnKennedy—and every Senator trying to push the SAVE Act through reconciliation—should explain one simple thing: If the Senate parliamentarian struck provisions from the BBB, why wouldn’t she do the exact same thing in the reconciliation?
