ATN Universities is celebrating 25 years of landmark achievements of higher education policy and advocacy. @CurtinUni Vice-Chancellor and ATN Universities Chair Professor Harlene Hayne CNZM reflects on the origins of the ATN group, and the important work we have undertaken over the past quarter-century to help build a more equitable higher education sector for all Australians, and tackle the biggest global challenges.

International education is essential for Australia's prosperity and global reputation and today, the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) has joined forces with our peak body counterparts at the @RegUniNet and the @IRUAustralia to reaffirm our collective commitment to working collaboratively with government - and all sides of politics - to find a clear path forward for Australia's international education sector. This sector is a vital element of our cultural and intellectual exchange with the world, and is a cornerstone of Australia's economy and communities across the country. Together, member universities across our three networks educate a significant proportion of the international students studying in Australia: 20 institutions educating 120,000 international students onshore alongside nearly half a million domestic students. ATN universities make their mark in global interdisciplinary research rankings, with outstanding results in the inaugural @timeshighered Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) with three in the world's top 30. There are 749 universities included in the first edition of this ranking; five Australian universities were included and ATN members excelled. @RMIT ranked 22nd globally, The @Uni_Newcastle was close behind at 23rd and @Deakin 28th. A memorable Chancellor's Dinner at W Melbourne overnight kicked off @Deakin University’s 50 years celebrations. The event acknowledged our member's storied past, celebrating the impact made over the past five decades across the sector by staff and students, and post their studies, while looking ahead to the exciting possibilities ahead for the university across domestic and global education and research. The audience was treated to a walk down memory lane with Chancellor, John Stanhope AM, an inspiring address by Vice-Chancellor, Professor @IainMartinVC, a performance by alumnus Dr Shane Howard AM of Goanna fame and Wamba Wamba man Uncle Ron Murray and also heard an enlightening discourse on AI and its place in education by Professor @phillipdawson  from the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning @CRADLEdeakin . ATN Universities extends our warmest congratulations to all at Deakin University and we look forward to celebrating this great milestone with you in the months ahead.

Our Deputy Executive Director, @ColettaFrank , is taking part in C𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽s 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮 on day one of the National Tech Summit at The Timber Yard in Port Melbourne with Lynn Thompson, @QBEVentures, James Posnett and Blair Beaton, @ASX, Kwok Tang and Claire Thompson, Herbert Smith Freehills, Bob Williams, @Lockton, Jane Adams, @CommBank and Jo Cantle CAHRI, Australian Public Service Commission. Earlier, The Hon. @billshortenmp MP (Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme; Minister for Government Services) and Federal Member for Maribyrnong delivered the keynote address, talking about the importance of government in rebuilding the trust of Australian citizens in both government and technology and the need for inclusion, access and having people and their preferences at the centre of decision-making when it comes to data collection and use.
