Pounds of butter should be packaged with 2 sticks salted and 2 sticks unsalted: cooking butter _and_ eating butter, in a single package. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

A dry cleaner ruined one of my shirts recently, and I decided not to do anything about it. Why? They would have pushed back and insisted they didn’t do it. I would have explained why they were wrong, and they would have denied it again. I would have told them I’d never come back unless they reimbursed me, and the back and forth would have continued. Frankly, dealing with that kind of conflict over a shirt that costs a couple hundred dollars isn’t worth my time or energy at this point in life. Yes, people should be held accountable, and there should be consequences for actions, and this stuff should be viewed on a case-by-case. But in this case, it was a no brainer. All downside. I’m just not going to go back. Sometimes you have to weigh the upside, pick your battles, and choose being smart over being right.

I really want to understand. Why not just put the food on the table and let everyone take what they want alone without asking?!!!

I’ll ask again Did parents in the 70s/80s/90s really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies

@sam_d_1995 Hard agree. And I propose 60. x.com/av/status/2024…
AV@av

@maxdubler Hot take: as soon as one's 60, there should be annual reaction time and vision tests for license renewal. And there should be free transit—including last mile rides—for anyone who fails and can no longer legally drive. While we're at it: let's raise the driving age to 18.

@vbspurs You know what, though? Potlucks are great for when you're short on cash—it means you can still gather your friends but you don't need the funds to throw a full party! And it's also possible to bring something low-cost to a potluck (pasta salad, jello, etc.)

I've been thinking abt this topic. I'll share something few Brits want to acknowledge. We are cheap. Esp cheap compared to Americans (vide your tipping culture). Casseroles cost money. Wine costs money. We don't like to spend more than necessary. Americans aren't like that.

You know how Americans have potluck dinners? Everyone brings a casserole or something? I've been meaning to tell you that I love that about you guys. So warm and friendly. Brits don't do this. It's considered bad manners to bring food to a person's home. We are so unalike.

I don’t think the younger generation understands that Sushi wasn’t really a thing in America in the early 90’s. I don’t remember even seeing a sushi restaurant till I was like 12 or 13.

@slimvnsn @JJWatt Hard same, and folks in those situations aren't making the $2.75 (or whatever it is) per hour like folks in sit-down restaurants

@JJWatt Bro did everything himself and the iPad still had the audacity to preselect 20%... what exactly am I tipping for? The buzzer experience? I hit "other" and type in $0 every single time. The entitlement of counter service tipping is actually wild to me.

Genuine question on a restaurant situation: You walk up to a counter to order. You find your own table and seat yourself. If you order coffee, they hand you a cup and you go fill it up yourself. If you order food, they hand you a buzzer and when it goes off, you go pick it up yourself. The iPad has a “20%, 25%, 30%, Other” tip option, with 20% already preselected. What’s your move?

@jiratickets Just 2 days? Ugh. A bike ride from Monterey to Big Sur is breathtaking. Fave food: El Pollo Rey in Seaside. Go to the aquarium. Go to the fruit stand on the coast on the way into Carmel. Find a whale to watch. Camp in Big Sur if you can.

@jazzychad @butleriano As top _3_, Chad? I lived in Atlanta for four years and most recently visited last year. And it's gotten far better as a city (you can walk places now!) but I still don't think it's top 3. Top 10? Yes. But not top 3.

What’s the US’s “fourth” city. NYC, LA, and Atlanta are pretty clearly the top 3 but the 4th is more ambiguous. I feel like the main contenders are probably Dallas, San Francisco/Bay Area, DC, or maybe Chicago
