The New Right

A recent poll came out showing popularity of the Free State Project across NH. 15% - Support 41% - No Opinion 44% - Oppose I’d be curious to see the cross tabs and how much overlap there is between those who oppose the FSP and those who oppose Republicans in general. While the FSP is a non-partisan movement, NH Democrats have taken to labeling every Republican a “Free Stater” to rile up their base. We are the boogeymen that make partisan Democrats cling to their religion of government school monopolies. As I have toured Republican meetings across NH, however, there is not a huge degree of awareness about the FSP. We have strong core support, a few myths to dispel, and a lot of curiosity about how we are helping to keep New Hampshire free. The fact that the FSP is at 15% support statewide is actually fairly significant if you understand the social psychology of the tipping point, as written about by Malcom Gladwell. For any fringe idea to become mainstream, there is an adoption curve. The range from 13-17% is considered to be the “tipping point” where an idea transitions from fringe to mainstream. We are at that tipping point and we have a lot of room to grow. As recently noted in @ConMonitorNews: “The fringe has become the fabric.”
