if you need a “selfish” reason for jaime’s actions against the mad king then self preservation isn’t it. i’d say he hates the mad king for taking him as a kingsguard then proceeding to destroy his entire worldview by being a sadistic villain. it was a sort of vengeance.


Stannis gave him a pretty good deal as well




Actually crazy that if these two had an ounce of love for each other, they would have steamrolled the Lannisters.







And even if Catelyn was 'abusing' Jon like some people seem to believe, that would make Ned a negligent and complicit father. When in reality, the only time Cat ever asked about Jon's heritage, Ned scared her so badly she never brought it up again.



Because GRRM made a mild critique about how certain fantasy stories just have fully "clean" endings and wanted Tolkien to explore the messy parts of ruling; so the LOTR fans got mad, took GRRM's words out of context and have hated him ever since
