another amazing aspect of this is the juxtaposition of the two parties. one is the deeply rooted American, who stands for everything that America believed in since its founding. the other is the exact opposite, a faceless, rootless fortune 100 tech giant with no ties to the land, no respect for tradition, and no purpose beyond profit and endless expansion.

if we, as a society, come to the opinion that the elderly should have a smaller piece of the economic pie, the progressive way to do that is obvioudly to start cutting the welfare program that primarily benefits wealthy seniors (tax free retirement accounts)

WaPo wants to create a Social Security marriage penalty. They arrive at this figure by adding two max SS benefits for those who retire 5+ years into their SS retirement window. No individual is getting anywhere near this amount.

A century from now the B history student will remember Trump did those three things, the A student will remember he had non-consecutive terms, was impeached twice, was the president when covid struck, and used to work in real estate/ entertainment. Obama will be the black president, no one will know what he actually did as president, no one will remember Biden, it will be like Garfield or Tyler, Bush W might be remembered for 9/11 and the GoT, Clinton will be forgotten, Bush Sr will be forgotten, Reagan has then end of the Cold War. Very few legacies stick.

“I’m sorry tired of living through historic events!” Not really, most of the daily news cycle won’t live past the week, even the big stuff like war or covid will be a small footnote in history books, at least the type you read in school.
Trump will be remembered for three things:
1) founding the space force
2) reviving nuclear technology in the U.S.
3) green lighting the Artemas missions that will return us to the moon and build our first foothold on another planetary body

This is a really popular sentiment and I don’t know if I agree because I think the subjective reflection on the events that transpired constructed from various characters’ memories and dialogue is way more compelling than an objective retelling of the rebellion might be

@finnan_walsh @mattxweltner Stannis is like 33-34 by the War of 5 Kings with only one kid (after being married for ≈12 years) and apparently only takes Selyse to bed begrudgingly like once or twice a year (likely less if he’s king.) It is probable he would never father another child/son.

Renly probably would have been a fine king. Better than any Lannister, and I think his flexibility, charisma, and fevers PR strategy/vibe would have held the realm together decently well.
But he would be deeply destabilizing and a major net-negative…

@williams_e77333 @TheSriber @ForTullos Roberts reign is *remembered* as prosperous and good by most iirc, and that’s probably our best example of a figurehead King and a powerful Hand. Obviously the succession crisis and war after his death indicates that there are issues with this.
