@SanPedroAce @psaundersdp @denverpost What are they players going to do? Start their own league? Go to Japan where they will earn less? Work regular jobs? The longer they strike, the more money they lose and their peak earning years are wasted. Owners can survive a ling work stoppage easily

@Ajay_W @psaundersdp @denverpost One of the strongest Unions in the world has no leverage? I don’t think you realize how strong the PU is. Bryce Harper told Manfred to “GTFO of my clubhouse” and Manfred packed up and left. You better do your research..

@SanPedroAce @psaundersdp @denverpost MLBPA has no leverage. Unless there is another baseball league that has willing to offer these players a better package, they will have no alternatives. The owners just need to stay firm and not budge. These players know they are not going to earn big money doing regular jobs.

@Ajay_W @psaundersdp @denverpost Let’s just cancel MLB entirely then, because that’s what will happen before players agree to a Cap. MLB is one of the strongest Unions in history, they’ll quit baseball before they allow a Cap.

@AEM366 Yeah, I can tell that there is no agreement on what parity even means. Everyone seems to have a completely different definition based on their agenda. I personally just want things to be financially equal like what all the other sports have.

MLB cap dissenters: Another dumb thing "MLB has parity", not about parity, it's about the ability to keep stars like Skenes. Or for example, if Mahomes was a FA, any team could sign him. If Ohtani was a FA, only 3-5 teams can. Now not competitive. BTW most WS champ are big $ tms

Salary Cap Leagues NFL - 12 Teams have never won a Championship. NBA - 10 Teams have never won a Championship. NHL - 10 Teams have never won a Championship. No Salary Cap MLB - 5 Teams have never won a Championship.

@TheRealJHair Sorry, nobody cares about this at all. Parity is not about the number of different champions. It’s about a level economic playing field. We are fine with repeat champs if the playing field is even. The fan experience is also about much more than just who wins in October.

Saying baseball is broken "drives me crazy," says @Ken_Rosenthal. "The system isn't perfect, but does it need a salary cap that could cost us games in 2027 to be rectified? I will always believe the answer is no."

@FoulTerritoryTV @Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal, I can tell that you know absolutely NOTHING about the experience of what a small market fan baseball fan goes through. You are not even close. It’s not your fault, but you need to listen and learn more about what the true experience really is. You just don’t get it

@ClutchHicks I don’t identify with players or owners. I just want the same level playing field that we find very enjoyable and appreciative of in all the other sports. The difference in enjoyment and community morale is so different between baseball and other sports when it comes to business

@borikwaa Repeat champions don’t bother us at all. At least the playing field is level and market size does not matter. Winning actually means something too when you aren’t buying it.

@SalD9786 @DanClarkSports I have actually been complaining about payroll disparity since the mid-90’s when cable TV money severely altered the game. The Dodgers are only a recent story . . . And if there was a level playing field, I would actually respect the Dodgers championships. Right now, it’s a joke

𝗡𝗼. 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟬 NBA: 12 NFL: 14 NHL: 15 MLB: 16 This statistic alone is the single biggest reason why the so-called "huge disparity" in MLB is a total load of shit. None of the big four pro sports have had more champions this millennium...

The MLBPA and MLB have made their first proposals in what's expected to be a prolonged labor negotiation. All that's at stake is the future of baseball. Free at ESPN: A breakdown of what all of it means, what you need to know and where everything stands. espn.com/mlb/story/_/id…

@Awood45 If you believe in open markets, let more baseball teams open up up in the New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles area. You can’t have both ways.

If MLB truly cared about competitive balance, it would force revenue-sharing teams to spend those dollars on talent instead of pocketing the money. The 50/50 split only comes inside of a cap/floor system, which replaces a true open market with an owner-controlled ceiling.
Billy The Unheard@Nomadhidinghere

@Awood45 Alex, the MLBPA anti-cap stance means they will invariably accept a deal that equates to less than 50% of league revenue for the players (this includes the current proposal by the union). Why?

@MLBPA_News I hope the MLB owners lock you out FOREVER and bring in replacement players. We watch other sports with salary caps and the fan experience is a billiion times better than the haves and have-nots garbage you keep pushing for. MLBPA is disgraceful and needs to be crushed.

The MLBPA's response, in part, to today's proposal: "The owners responded today with a demand for a salary cap system, something generations of players have fought against. The last time the owners made such an explicit push for a cap—over 30 years ago—it led to the longest work stoppage in MLB history. For generations, our members have fought against cap systems because they harm players at all levels, erode or eliminate contractual guarantees, pit player against player, lead to more work stoppages, not less, and get worse for players over time. Caps don’t lower ticket prices for fans, eliminate tanking or ensure teams are run with equal competence. They suffocate competition by offering owners an all-purpose excuse for inaction and mediocrity."
