@gundam_news105 The attitude changed thanks to the Shambloo, another unit that was created with the idea that it would be never animated. It was then animated in 3D in Unicorn and was succesful enough to convince Sunrise that those complex beast can be animated in the same way.

When Naohiro Ogata joined Sunrise in 1997, he approached senior staff about adapting Hathaway’s Flash, but they said it would be too difficult to animate. Of course, that attitude changed because of Unicorn. As much as I would’ve wanted a fully or mostly hand-drawn 90s Hathaway’s Flash, I think it was made at the perfect time. I genuinely believe nobody but Shukou Murase could’ve handled this story. It almost feels like fate that Murase went through directing Witch Hunter Robin, Ergo Proxy, and Genocidal Organ to develop the gritty, cerebral voice and visual style needed for Hathaway’s Flash, while also earning Sunrise’s confidence through his work on Gundam titles like F91, Victory, G, Wing, and Unicorn. I love and will always respect director Tomino, but by that stage in his career, his outlook had changed significantly. He wanted to tell more optimistic and uplifting stories. Tomino would’ve handled Hathaway’s Flash similarly to Zeta Gundam: A New Translation.

The paint being similar to F-14 A + is coincidential as they wanted the Z units and ZZ units to be painted in two different shades of greyish colors to diffentiate them from the hero machine Sentinel.

@ms_keremurian The producers of 2007 Giant Robot (which wasn't an adaptation: each GR entry is totally different from each other) killed it. It was cut short and it was nearly impossible to see due to network screw ups. It's a good watch, but the potential it had remain largely unexpressed.

@tottekurebeepri Yeah, at around 488 meters in lenght it would be considered a very big ship in most sci-fi series. Yamato's Andromeda class for example is 444 meter in lenght.

@DreadedDinosaur The problem of the Neo Geo is that is so specialized in 2D graphic that it cannot do polygons at all due to its 68000 being "closed" to software render in stark contrast with, for example, the one in the SEGA Genesis. It's basically inflexible.

@ts555ll To be fair Guyslugger's Solon Attack is essentially a drill version of the iconic Gatchaman's God Phoenix attack. Ishiguro was probably a fan of that ramming attack and suggested it during the design phase of both Guyslugger and Macross.
