Facciamo ordine: Google pubblica un paper secondo cui servirebbero 500.000 qubit fisici e 9 minuti per rompere la crittografia a curve ellittiche di Bitcoin. Oggi Google ha 105 qubit fisici. Ne servirebbero 5.000 volte di più. Project Eleven ha messo in palio 1 BTC per chiunque rompa una chiave ellittica con l'algoritmo di Shor. Il premio è aperto da un anno. Nessuno l'ha reclamato. C'è un dettaglio che i media di settore si sono dimenticati di evidenziare: lo stesso paper specifica che gli attacchi al mining tramite algoritmo di Grover "restano impraticabili per i prossimi decenni". E allora perché tanto rumore? Guardiamo chi ne parla. Justin Drake della Ethereum Foundation co-firma il paper di Google. Lo stesso Justin Drake che progetta e promuove la roadmap post-quantistica di Ethereum. Una settimana prima della pubblicazione aveva annunciato un'iniziativa di ricerca da $2 milioni. Quantifica la minaccia e vende la soluzione. Nic Carter, founding partner di Castle Island Ventures, ha guidato il Series A da $20 milioni in Project Eleven - valutazione $120 milioni - un'azienda il cui modello di business è vendere protezione dalla minaccia quantistica. Poi va in pubblico a dichiarare che il quantum è "il rischio più grande per Bitcoin". È lo stesso schema di Jamie Dimon con JPMorgan: in pubblico Bitcoin era uno "schema Ponzi". In privato JPMorgan comprava quote degli ETF Bitcoin di BlackRock e Grayscale. La paura è un modello di business. Intanto, in silenzio, il BIP-360 propone un nuovo tipo di indirizzo resistente agli attacchi quantistici. È già su testnet. Chi vi racconta il pericolo è lo stesso che vi vende la soluzione.
