Just returning from the Global Bitcoin Summit 2024 hosted by @HRF at @bitcoinpark_, and I am profoundly moved. This experience reignited my passion to continue fostering Bitcoin adoption and reminded us at @bitcoinlake that now is the most critical time to educate. During the summit we listened to terrifying stories from those suffering under dictatorships. Their bank accounts were frozen, their freedoms were stripped away, sometimes put in jail, all for daring to speak out against injustice. This is happening all around the world, from faraway Africa to nearby Nicaragua, the erosion of democracy is happening everywhere. #Bitcoin is not just money. It is the language of freedom. It stands away from the grasp of governments who want to control and censor us in the name of “safety” and “national security.” but in reality it is always to protect their interests, not ours. A speaker in the summit said it clearly: "If we don't defend our rights, we will lose them." For those of you in first world countries, where banking is accessible, it can be hard to comprehend the realities of others but 38-45% of the world’s population lives under authoritarian regimes. They are not free. They cannot transact freely. Their businesses have been devastated by reckless money printing, and all their wealth has vanished in an instant. Bitcoin is specially important for those who need it most. For those denied their freedom, denied a safe and reliable store of value, for those needing protection from the terrible decisions of their government. No doubt about it, Bitcoin is hope for a better future. Thank you to all the organizers of the event and the honor of inviting us again this year. Medellín restaurants, coffee shops, co-working spaces, etc. are consistently S-tier in creativity, design, and aesthetic beauty in general. Everywhere you look, the black & white minimalist norms that most of the western world has adopted are being disrespected. Love to see it. One of my favorite things about this city ❤️
