arguing about consciousness online tends to actually be way less fun for me than most subjects. something about it seems to bring out feelings of desperate importance and incommunicability in myself and clearly in the people i argue with too. i wonder why it's so sensitive!

Debates in consciousness science run unusually hot precisely because we lack shared frameworks and decisive data. Theories proliferate unchecked, like invasive species without natural predators.

When you read too many rants on X about data center water use and you’re like – wait but— 😩 “Nvm. Grok can you make an image of an AI Gymnásion and add greenhouses that utilize the waste heat plus a golf course water reclamation system?”

@tenobrus Yeah, most days on X I feel like I walked into the wrong room at the party and I’m like- “Can you please just point me to the room where we all pet adorable critters and share really cool fun ideas?”

Ravens don’t fly through still air. They fly through turbulence. Chaotic, shifting, unpredictable flow. And here’s the part most people miss They don’t fight it. They use it. They tilt into gusts. Ride vortices. Let disorder generate lift. What looks like control is actually something rarer the willingness to be constantly wrong and constantly adjusting. They’re not calculating perfect paths. They’re staying recoverable. Even their “play” isn’t random. Sliding down roofs. Flipping mid-air. Dropping objects. They’re not avoiding failure. They’re seeking the edge of it deliberately. Because you can’t learn where the boundary is without touching it. And they have to get this right. They don’t have excess energy. They don’t get to brute force solutions. Every movement has to work with the environment, not against it. So they evolve something better not perfect control… but recoverable control. You see the same thing in a surgeon mid-operation. A musician improvising. A real conversation that doesn’t collapse under tension. Nothing is static. Everything is adjusting. The ones who hold together aren’t the ones avoiding turbulence. They’re the ones who can stay coherent inside it. Ravens figured that out physically. We keep trying to eliminate the turbulence. Better systems. Better plans. Better control. But the turbulence isn’t the problem. The inability to stay coherent inside it is.

Sometimes I think I might be the last remaining human on X who still replies to replies simply because NOT replying to replies feels peak rude and talking to strangers is kinda fun.

@mark_k I really hope the next interesting AI is named is Karen and it only speaks fluent middle manager rant. (But don’t release, just leak the entire codebase.)
