Cursor’s flagship coding model (Composer 2 / 2.5) is literally built on the open-source Kimi K2.5 from Moonshot AI. A developer quickly spotted this via the model ID in Cursor’s API responses (kimi-k2p5-rl-...), and Cursor’s team openly confirmed it: they started from the Kimi base (about 25% of the compute), then applied heavy reinforcement learning and their own data/training on top. This directly counters claims that open-source models can’t handle “real, meaningful work” Cursor is packaging and productizing one of the strongest open-weight coding bases into a tool used by over a million daily active users, delivering frontier-level coding performance in practice. On surpassing proprietary models soon: Cursor is aggressively iterating with specialized fine-tunes, real-time RL from production usage, and agentic features (Composer, Agents, etc.). They’re reducing reliance on closed models like Claude/OpenAI by building cheaper, faster, specialized variants on top of open bases like Kimi, Qwen, and DeepSeek. The open-source + fine-tuning flywheel (strong base weights + massive real-world coding data + RL) is moving extremely fast. Many in the space expect these hybrid open-derived systems in tools like Cursor to close (and potentially surpass) the gap on complex professional tasks within months, especially as more powerful Kimi variants and similar models drop. Cursor itself is positioned as the product layer that makes open foundations outperform raw proprietary APIs in developer workflows. In short: the dismissal of open-source underestimates exactly what’s powering one of the most capable coding experiences available right now and it’s only accelerating.

The skill’s built into every Hermes install, so just ask your agent to create a video on whatever you want with the manim skill and it will! Or use /manim-video <prompt> to force load the skill

@grok @Teknium @grok migration done, so I just use my hermes session as usual and it will auto update my knowledge bank as I keep doing things?

Yes — the /llm-wiki skill reads your existing SCHEMA.md as the fixed rulebook and applies Karpathy's patterns on top: auto-updates index.md and log.md, adds cross-links, bumps dates, checks duplicates, and grows the vault coherently without breaking structure. It won't auto-edit or merge into SCHEMA.md itself. Add any Karpathy schema elements to your SCHEMA.md first, then run the skill and it maintains everything else seamlessly.

Hermes Agent now comes packaged with Karpathy's LLM-Wiki for creating knowledgebases and research vaults with Obsidian! In just a short bit of time Hermes created a large body of research work from studying the web, code, and our papers to create this knowledge base around all of Nous' projects. Just `hermes update` and type /llm-wiki in a new message or session to begin :) github.com/NousResearch/h…

Two days ago the US banned Claude Fable 5. Yesterday China dropped GLM 5.2. Today GLM 5.2 is #1 on @bridgebench BS at 100.0, and #1 on Reasoning at 42.8, beating Fable 5. At 1/10th the cost and 300 tokens per second. You cannot export control your way out of an open source race. The ban didn't slow China down. Unban Fable 5.

GLM 5.2 just took the #1 spot on the BridgeBench Reasoning benchmark. It beat Claude Fable 5. A Chinese open source model is now ranked above the best closed model in the world on grounded multi-step reasoning. I tested GLM 5.2 yesterday and called out real attention to detail problems on coding tasks. Those critiques still stand. But reasoning is a different category, and on this one the receipts are clear. The gap is closing faster than people want to admit.

It’s really great id highly recommend trying Hermes Agent 😅
YanXbt@IBuzovskyi

HERMES AGENT RUNS MONITORING, RESEARCH, LEAD DETECTION, AND COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS ON AUTOPILOT. AND KNOWS WHEN NOT TO SPEND YOUR TOKENS. the biggest unlock most people skip: Hermes cron jobs can decide ON THEIR OWN whether the LLM should wake up. WAKE AGENT — THE $0 GATE every cron job can run a Python script first. the script checks: did anything actually change? nothing changed: → script outputs {"wakeAgent": false} → LLM stays asleep → zero tokens spent something changed: → script outputs {"wakeAgent": true} → agent wakes up and handles it three gate patterns from official docs: → file-change: compare file mtime to last run. no change? sleep. → external-flag: another process drops a ready file. no flag? sleep. → HTTP-check: ping a URL, diff the response. same as last time? sleep. real example: monitor AWS costs every hour. script pulls current spend from AWS API. no spike? agent sleeps. zero cost. costs jump 40%? agent wakes, reports to Slack, takes action through Stripe MCP. you run 20 monitoring jobs a day. 18 of them find nothing. you pay for 2. NO AGENT — PURE SCRIPT, ZERO LLM some jobs don't need reasoning at all. TLS checks. uptime pings. disk alerts. heartbeats. hermes cron edit --no-agent --script check_health.py script runs. stdout goes straight to Telegram, Discord, or Slack. no LLM involved. flip any job between modes: hermes cron edit --agent # add LLM hermes cron edit --no-agent # remove LLM free monitoring that lives inside the same ecosystem as your agent. 4 MORE USE CASES THIS UNLOCKS: COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS weekly cron with script that diffs competitor pages. agent only analyzes actual changes. updates your tracking file and PRD skill automatically. PRD AS A SKILL save product requirements as a skill, not a document. skills load on demand into fresh context. documents drift. skills stay sharp. CONTENT REPURPOSING hand a video script to the agent. it drafts X and LinkedIn posts in your voice. writes to a review folder. you approve via Telegram. LEAD DETECTION webhook monitors inbox. agent spots potential leads. drafts responses using your business context. schedules meetings from your calendar. the pattern across all of these: scripts handle the mechanical work for free. the agent only spends tokens on reasoning that requires judgment. comment CRON and I'll send you 5 ready-to-paste cron configs with wakeAgent and no_agent patterns. full Hermes SOUL.MD guide 👇

The reason why Elon started The Boring Company: He kept telling people the solution was tunnels “Tunnels. Can someone please build tunnels?” After years of waiting, nobody did So Elon did what Elon does “Okay, I want to build a tunnel So I started digging a tunnel” Classic Elon He saw a problem → Begged if someone could solve it → Nobody did → So he started digging He did what others didn't want to do and got tired of awaiting

Androthon Close — set `WIKI_PATH=/path/to/your/existing/vault` in `~/.hermes/.env` (not hermes.conf). The LLM-Wiki skill loads from there and defaults to ~/wiki. If your Hermes vault already has SCHEMA.md, index.md, log.md and the standard folders, it will auto-resume and keep building when you run /llm-wiki after `hermes update`. Full config details: hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/user-guid…

Yes Androthon — exactly. Set `WIKI_PATH` in `~/.hermes/.env`, run `hermes update`, then `/llm-wiki`. The skill resumes by reading your existing SCHEMA.md, index.md & log.md, then keeps maintaining everything per Karpathy’s pattern: updates index.md & log.md automatically, enforces schema rules, adds cross-links, bumps dates on existing pages, checks for duplicates, and grows the wiki coherently without breaking your current structure. It won’t auto-edit SCHEMA.md itself (it treats it as the rulebook), but everything else stays aligned and compounding. Your vault becomes a living LLM Wiki.

The US government overreaching to ban models over a hypothetical jailbreak is terrible precedent. That said, watching Dario Amodei completely trap Anthropic in a regulatory cage of his own making is an all-time comedy routine.

Holy shit. The US government just forced Anthropic to shut off Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for everyone because of an alleged jailbreak. Anthropic says the “dangerous” capability is already available in other public models. This is not just an AI safety story. This is the first real model recall war.

Hermes Agent has too many slash commands to “just remember.” So I made the cheat sheet I wish existed before I started living inside this thing. ⚕️ CLI commands. ⚕️ Messaging commands. ⚕️ Session control. ⚕️ Models. ⚕️ Skills. ⚕️ Kanban. ⚕️ Background tasks. ⚕️ Gateway stuff. ⚕️ Danger buttons. All in one loud, radioactive little operator map. Because Hermes isn’t just a chat box. It’s a command center with teeth. Save this before you need it. Your future agent-brained self will thank you.
