@cherylcorless41 @AgnesWaxOOO Some carers, probably those who are working for private companies might get this amount but anyone fostering for their local authority will receive about half this amount.

"Young people in care need someone who will love them, who will champion them, who will stick with them. They need someone who will go to the school thing and cheer at the back way too loud! They need someone who will be proud of them. It’s a privilege to do this as foster carers. Teenage years are difficult years, but those years have brought us moments of real joy too." Join us for our online Information Session: Caring for Children and Teenagers - 12 June 2023 to explore the different types of care you could offer and what the application process can involve. homeforgood.org.uk/events/info-12…

Warm warm are lovely but they don't pay the bills. For 10 years the Scottish Government and COSLA have been arguing over who is responsible for funding foster and kinship carers and during that time thousands of children have missed out on important opportunities and experiences

For #FCF23 the Chief Executive of @ThePromiseScot @frasmckinly shares his thoughts on the importance of foster carers and what 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 can do to support them👇

@Labour_GCC @GlasgowSNP A kick in the teeth for Glasgow’s chronically underfunded foster carers and a disappointing unmasking of Labour councillors’ disregard for workers' rights. Thanks to @danhutchison_ for tabling the motion and recognising carers' right to a collective voice!

@ThePromiseScot Is there any update on the very overdue National Minimum Allowance? My foster son was 5 when @GlasgowCC last increased his allowance. He is now 16 years old. How much more would he have been able to achieve and experience with fair financial support. #thebrokenpromise

The debate also highlighted the urgent need to agree a minimum national allowance for foster carers. Delivering the right level of allowances is vital to ensure Scotland has the right homes, in the right places, at the right time for children.

Thanks for highlighting this. As a foster carer for GCC I was very upset to hear how little regard most of the councillors had for what we do. Very grateful to @scottishgreens for all their support. Other just hiding behind the empty words of the Broken Promise @ThePromiseScot

@SocialWorkClara @IfcaInfo ' with OUR new cohort of prospective foster carers' @m4cif I believe there should be a general register of foster carers, we are not possessions of one sw area. Children would be better matched, not confined to geography or the whims of one sw area @forsa_union_ie @KateDuggan8

I would argue that only people who have met, spoken to in person and preferably have some relationship with the young person should be advocating them. I've sat in a hearing listening to someone who'd never met the child 'advocate' for the exact opposite of what the yp wanted
Noel@Noel76467

Is ‘advocating’ the new buzz word? I keep being told by other professionals they should be involved in meetings (that they don’t need to be) to advocate. What’s my role then? Advocating without a relationship with the child and context of the issues becomes dangerous.

Today’s experiment. Tory MP Edward Leigh claimed expenses of £2,332 for heating last year, and £2,474 the year before that Retweet this if you think he should pay for his own utility bills.
