The Dragon Baby localization hole continues to get deeper. Co-founder "Sam" Burton runs a community for localizers called HonYaks, taken from the Japanese word "honyaku," in the form of a discord server where "the herd" (very cult-like) gathers to network, share "tips" & job openings, mentor new blood, & discuss all things localization while professing to be welcoming of LGBTQIAP++. It appears to be an exclusive space where applicants are vetted via a form that requires social media links & pronouns, which if being connected to Dragon Baby wasn't enough, says everything one needs to know about the caliber of individuals within "the herd." These localizers are an insidious group that have infected the industry for far too long. If nothing else, they are very good at sticking together & promoting each other to ensure they continue to fail upward. This information needs to be spread far & wide so that the Japanese become more aware of the efforts being taken by these localizers to corrupt their media. This group must be rightfully branded as destructive & anyone involved in HonYaks needs to become unemployable in the translation industry. Japanese creators/companies have to take a zero tolerance approach to the vandalism of their media. The bad elements must be purged so that faithful translation can become the norm.
