@sippy77xx @aspen_ae1 I’m under the impression not every trans person pursues HRT or gets affirming surgeries. So if someone doesn’t change the physical characteristics to match their desired sex, are they not trans?

would you believe me if i said people find transsexual an icky term because of a years-long effort to decouple being trans from material transition aimed to help justify depriving us of medical care and legal recognition?

@sippy77xx @aspen_ae1 I’ve always viewed the “gender is a social construct” in terms of gender roles. Like the whole “men are strong, emotionless protectors” and “women are soft, emotional caregivers.” 90% of what defines a man or woman is what society says it is, rather than being objective truth

@LilithLovett It’s because we’re big freakish men who MUST take up space. We just can’t help it since we’re men and grew up as men and will always be men. But seriously we need to keep calling out this rhetoric because too many queer people are agreeing with TERFs and it’s really damaging

I feel deeply self conscious even speaking up for myself at work when my manager does stuff like committing time theft because I worry about taking too much space and how I might come off. But sure, I still take too much space because of “male socialization” or whatever.

This may be controversial but here we go. It does not, will not, ever, help the trans community, for these choose your own adventure NB Queers to play inverted no definition bullshit. Women are a social class based on the female sex, the average woman does not have a beard and is biologically not supposed to (we are not talking special cases). These people exist in every subculture, people who want to be so open minded their brain falls out and definitions cease to categorize the group as anything other than a meaningless label. Maybe your gender expression includes male and female sex characteristics, fine, you're non-binary, but to clutch your pearls and act like the average person is ever going to accept your ultra-abstract postmodern definitions beyond deep academia is beyond privileged. No trans woman in their right mind wants a beard and I wish these people would sit down, shut up, and listen to what we say about ourselves.

@polypocketknife I dissociated 90% of my life before admitting to myself I wanted to transition. Even if I remembered my childhood, teenage years, even most of my early adulthood, I very much view it as “that person wore my face and had my name, but wasn’t. I wasn’t supposed to be born as them.”

transsexuals i’m curious: do you conceive of your pretransition self as you, as properly the same person just at a different point in life? or as someone you used to be, or pretended to be, a past life sharing a body? is that person still alive to you? were you alive then at all?

Is it just me, or do queer podcasts sort of: 1. lack transsexual women's perspectives 2. talk about transness in a way that is so disconnected from the material needs and conditions of transsexuals maybe I'm just getting a skewed perspective
