There are tens of thousands of Michiganders with deep ties to Lebanon— family, friends, and ancestral homes. Today, many anxiously checked in on loved ones amid significant Israeli airstrikes and civilian casualties. My heart goes out to these families, along with so many others from the greater Detroit area who have been living in fear for loved ones in the greater Middle East. For a ceasefire deal to be viable, it must cover the full scope of this regional conflict, including Lebanon. The U.S. negotiators should help prevent further loss of civilian life by sitting down with all parties and being transparent about the deal on the table and how to bring the war to a reasonable end.

To an educated (military-history savvy) eye, that ratio is actually evidence for genocide. It is literally the second lowest of (meaning, men are less represented than) any major conflict since the Rwandan genocide. People don't realize how massively overrepresented men are among violent fatalities compared to women in typical wars.
The same is true for young males. Their relative representation among fatalities in Gaza is unusually low; and looks much more like a genocide (Cambodia), massacre (7 Oct) or deliberate targeting of civilians (Second Intifada) rather than a war.
