⛔️ Djibouti recently offered Ethiopia full operational control of the Port of Tadjoura to discourage it from re-recognising the State of Rep. of Somaliland.
But Abiy Ahmed rejects control & wants sovereign access.

وخلال سبع سنوات من قيامها كدولة اتحادية، حققت دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة نصيبها من هذا الازدهار، دون أن يعني ذلك التخلي عن القيم والتقاليد. وبروح التعاون والأخوة، يمكن لدولة الإمارات أن تتطلع إلى المستقبل بثقة.

During the past two weeks, my visit to the Arab states on the southern shore of the Gulf has taken me to some of the fastest-growing and most prosperous areas in the world.
In the seven years of their existence as a federal state, the United Arab Emirates has reaped its full share of this prosperity. But this has not meant the abandonment of traditional virtues and values. In the right spirit of cooperation and brotherhood, the United Arab Emirates can look forward with confidence to the future.
Prince Philip and I are delighted to have seen something of the remarkable progress that has been made.

Xaqsoor Party leader Aynte appears to have broken away from the Heritage camp. Given how close he was to Abdulkareem Jama, the fact that he’s now backing Fahad’s camp suggests that Somali politics has become seriously tangled. In Türkiye, when alliances shift like this during elections, loyalties blur, and people often joke, “Things are such a mess, I’ll just vote for Recep Tayyip Erdoğan again.” The situation in Somalia feels much the same everything is chaotic, and it’s hard to tell who’s aligned with whom. If I were Somali, I’d probably just vote for Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and be done with it. 🤣

Breaking 🚨🚨 | Laasnaood, Sool, Somaliland
Large protests have been reported across Laasnaood, where residents are demonstrating in significant numbers and calling for the return of the Republic of Somaliland administration.
According to local accounts, the demonstrations have disrupted normal activity in parts of the city, with participants expressing support for President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) and his recent appeal for de-escalation. Protesters are urging armed groups to disarm and re-engage within Somaliland’s political framework.
In a related development, a delegation of Dhulbahante representatives arrived in Mogadishu on Thursday. The purpose of the visit is understood to be discussions with federal authorities regarding their political position, including a reported intention to disengage from the current arrangement and rejoin Somaliland.
The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as political consultations continue.

It is a pitty that @ma5tani blocked me after she had criticised me with this very interesting statement. It would have merrited a longer debate:
"you talk about “caricature of democracy” as if western states didn’t take centuries of conflict exclusion and trial-and-error to get where they are. europe didn’t wake up democratic it built institutions slowly through power struggles economic growth and political reform.
somaliland is doing that in real time. it has held multiple elections peaceful transfers of power and maintains relative stability in a region where that is not guaranteed. that’s not a caricature that’s a young democracy finding its footing .
and your framing of this as purely clan chauvinism ignores people like me. i’m not from the dominant clan and i still support somaliland because the project goes beyond clan lines. reducing everything to one clan’s control is a shallow read of what’s actually happening on the ground.
yes clan identity exists but acting like it defines everything or that it should have disappeared already is ahistorical. europe moved beyond tribal structures over time with far more resources and stability. we are still in that process.
what’s striking is how selective your analysis is. you highlight one narrative while downplaying others which makes your position look less like balanced journalism and more like a predetermined angle.
it’s easy to critique from within already consolidated systems that benefit from centuries of development. harder to acknowledge that others are building under very different conditions.
if anything the fact that somaliland has maintained democratic processes at all is the point not the failure."
