In this BBC documentary, I talk about air pollution from oil production and gas flaring that suffocates communities in Basra and Kuwait City. This is *man-made* pollution that can be eliminated tomorrow, if we want. Full Video Here: youtu.be/nDmtnFV4njA?si…

Read our call to deliberate threshold-lowering of diabetes diagnosis Historically, adjustments to "thresholds" in clinical and regulatory worlds is common We've done it for hypertension: 1977: ≥160/95 mmHg 1993: ≥140/90 mmHg 2017: ≥130/80 mmHg Is it time for diabetes?

The bottom line, however, is not whether heat or cold is more dangerous, but how we can save the most lives. The available science strongly suggests that an urgent focus on HEAT-related deaths is well justified.

Graph 4: So what's the extrapolated risk in the future? We don't exactly know.. we can make an educated guess? Like this comprehensive projection analysis by @MasselotPierre: nature.com/articles/s4159… Simply concluded: future cold reduction can't offset future heat increase

Today in @TheLancetPlanet, we address this question that we get each year: "Why are there more Cold Deaths than Heat Deaths?" The answer is in 4 graphs.. And *spoiler alert* scientists' concern about "Heat" (more than "Cold") is well justified. thelancet.com/journals/lanpl…

How many people die from extreme heat? It’s hard to tell. @Barrak1 was featured in @japantimes discussing the issue of underreporting heat-related deaths. He stated “Even countries with massive resources still struggle to identify heat deaths.” ow.ly/NQF450SU86N

California regulators just voted to establish heat protections for indoor workers for the first time. But few if any enforceable rules protect workers in the rest of the country—and American workers will keep dying from this heat, @ZoeSchlanger writes. theatlantic.com/science/archiv…
