If you are a junior artist looking to learn professional workflows but can't find breakdowns on ArtStation, try and abstract out what is needed to make the game and go from there. Think about game size, the amount of detail, or what is needed to make a linear game (ex: Naughty Dog’s LoU) vs open world (Assassin’s Creed/ Red Dead Redemption 2 ). This can help you find suitable pipelines and resources. EX: You need to make a large viking valley from AC Valhalla. Focus on solid landscape work (blockout), procedural tools such as PCG, and strong robust kits. Get in the habit of reverse engineering other people's work. Congratulations to German Rodriguez for completing Crafting Environments: Career Kickstarter with @BeddowsDesign German’s goal was to build an environment in Unreal Engine that showcases his hard-surface modeling skills through believable, modular structures. For this project, he learned to set up array Blueprints, create layered materials, and handle lighting and color grading in UE5. “Throughout the whole process, Alex guided me and pointed me toward all the information I needed to push this project forward. His art direction pushed me past my comfort zone and helped me hit a new level of quality.” Check out Cyberpunk Industrial, inspired by Alexander Dudar’s concept art for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Congratulations Ash Stafford for completing their course at SDA with @BeddowsDesign. Ash is a 3D Environment Artist and Concept Artist with a passion for visual storytelling and immersive worldbuilding. For this project, Ash created a 3D environment based on a concept by Simon Stålenhag for The Electric State. "This project pushed me out of my comfort zone and was a great opportunity to refine my texturing skills, with a focus on capturing the gritty detail of the original concept." Great job Ash!
