As an Igbo man, as an Easterner… have you ever lived anywhere in the East—perhaps in Aba or Onitsha—and had a Fulani person as a flatmate or even a neighbour? What of Hausa? None. Even Yoruba people are barely 1 in 10,000. The Fulani man, instead of renting a house in the East or buying land in town to build, would rather move deep into the forest to occupy people’s lands freely—putting up thatched structures with the clear intention of taking over those lands. On the contrary, Igbo people living in the North build houses and develop wherever they find themselves. We cannot say the same about the Fulani and Hausa. The Hausa prefer to sleep in mosques rather than rent houses. They contribute nothing to the system. They don’t rent shops. Instead, they push goods in wheelbarrows or erect makeshift stalls where they pay nothing. They are simply parasites. No taxes, no revenue—nothing is collected from them. Yesterday, I read a write-up by an Igbo content creator who said, “I am Igbo, but I am first Nigerian before being Igbo,” and went further to defend it. He lives in a country where people are admitted into the military based on where they come from. A country where a Northerner finds it easier to import and clear goods, while Igbo people struggle through endless obstacles—yet he chooses to be “Nigerian” before being Igbo. What exactly is Nigeria? What is Nigerian culture? Do we have a Nigerian language? I believe the biggest problem facing us as a people is ignorance—a situation where even the educated remain ignorant without realizing it. You can only be Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, and so on. Identity is not abstract—it is concrete. Your language, your culture, your food, your marriage traditions, your beliefs—these are what define you. As long as there is no unified Nigerian culture or language, it is illogical to claim you are more Nigerian than your tribe. You are first Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, or Igbo before you became Nigerian. Your ancestors were never Nigerians. You became Nigerian because a foreigner less than 200 years ago merged different peoples into one. So, it defies common sense for anyone to say they are Nigerian before being Igbo. That position reflects a lack of historical understanding—and plain reasoning. The realization of our differences could have been our strength. But instead of confronting reality, people hide behind slogans like “unity in diversity.” We need to rediscover ourselves. We need to unite with people who share our language and culture. That is the only path to real progress. Imagine a system where the Yoruba control their region, the Igbo control theirs, and other major groups do the same—each managing their affairs independently, yet coming together to agree on cooperation while maintaining true autonomy. Do you think such a nation would not grow? But instead, we have chosen to live a lie—a giant federation where people die daily, where even Army generals fall like chickens in the hands of terrorists. And don’t misunderstand me—I am not preaching restructuring or regional government. It will not work. A typical Fulani man would rather accept division than allow true restructuring or regional autonomy. Nigeria, as it stands, serves a purpose—to enable gradual expansion into every region, to become “indigenes” everywhere, to gain control of land without resistance. True regional autonomy would destroy that Fulani agenda. That is why it will never be allowed to happen. And if it will never happen, then let everyone go their separate ways. Nwankwo Kanu nearly died before he ever lifted the Champions League. In 1996, while at Inter Milan, doctors discovered he had a serious heart defect. He underwent open-heart surgery. Most people in his position never played professional football again. Kanu came back. He won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995, before the heart surgery. He won the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan in 1998, after the heart surgery. He won the FA Cup twice with Arsenal. He won the PFA Players' Player of the Year in 1999. He won Africa's Footballer of the Year twice. And for Nigeria, he won the 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medal. A goal in the semi-final. A goal in the final. Nwankwo Kanu played professional football at the highest level for fifteen years after being told his career might be over. He is one of the greatest footballers Nigeria has ever produced. And he carries the extra weight of someone who had to earn every game twice. Once on the pitch. Once in the operating theatre.

I’ll Send You to the opposition party to Scatter Them — Tinubu to Akpabio President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stirred reactions after jokingly suggesting he could send Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the opposition camp to destabilize them. Tinubu made the remark on Tuesday while delivering his speech at the inauguration of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters in Abuja. Speaking humorously during the event, the President said, “Senate President, I will send you to the other side to represent me. And then you can scatter them to any way you want. They’re confused!” He concluded his speech with a patriotic message, saying, “God bless Nigeria, God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria and the tax collectors.”

@chineloge @the_ayodimeji You know why you cld say this about Prof. Soyinka? From the people outside of your region, it's so obvious!! Y'all got no moral & cultural etiquettes. It's not imbedded in ur traditional values to reverence people of his caliber. Y'all literally uses kicks to wake up ur elders.
