@ThisDayFSU @GarnetandGreatA Our AD, Howard Danford, added Volleyball and Gymnastics as varsity sports. The gymnastics coach, Hartley Price, came from Illinois. Even though we didn’t have good equipment or good competition, gymnasts loved Price. He was the reason we had good teams for about 10 years.

On this day 74 years ago, Florida State men's gymnastics won the NCAA Championship. Bill Roetzheim claimed individual titles in the all-around and high bar events. He also finished third in the parallel bars, side horse and sixth in the flying rings.

@ThisDayFSU @GarnetandGreatA Bill almost won this national championship by himself. He scored 23 points. Second place Illinois and Southern Cal each scored 23.5 as a team. Carmine Regna scored 3 points which won us the national championship.

He played before the 3-point shot was enacted - many of his buckets would have been 3 pointers. He was injured at the beginning of his senior year. We had a pretty good team that year until the injury.

Happy 73rd birthday to former Florida State men's basketball star Ron King! Born July 11, 1951, King still holds the FSU single-game record with 46 points. An All-American during the 1971-72 season, he also holds the FSU single-season record for made field goals (262 in 1970-71).

Some more notes from FSU's game notes: - FSU had 7 SBs on Sunday, most in a game since 2016. Most from '17 and on was four. - DeAmez Ross has a 14-game hitting streak dating back to last season. Ross was 8-14 (.571) with 6 runs scored vs. JU last season.
