Albany’s policies have left New York dead last, 50th out of 50 in tax competitiveness again. That’s not where we should be. Respectfully, it’s the result of years of decisions by Albany Democrats that made it harder for families and small businesses to get ahead. In Washington, I’m not just pointing it out, I’m delivering relief. I fought to quadruple the SALT cap in the Working Families Tax Cuts, helping the average Long Island family save $2,860 this year. Now it’s Albany’s turn to act.

THE $2 BILLION BLACKOUT: BLAKEMAN, SLATER EXPOSE HOCHUL’S HIDDEN ENERGY TAX SLUSH FUND While New Yorkers Sit in the Dark Over Rising Costs, Hochul Sits on a Mountain of Ratepayer Cash Nassau County Executive and Republican candidate for Governor of New York Bruce Blakeman today joined Assemblyman Matt Slater to expose a multibillion-dollar secret in Albany: while Kathy Hochul’s energy policies drive utility bills to record highs, the state is sitting on a massive $2.4 billion "Energy Tax" surplus. Blakeman pledged that, upon taking office, he will direct the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to immediately return these unused funds from the “Climate Investment Account” to New York ratepayers. "Under Kathy Hochul, New York has become the most expensive state in the nation to keep the lights on. She has overseen 36 utility rate hikes while pushing mandates that produce little energy but massive costs," said Blakeman. "While families are choosing between buying groceries and paying for heat, Hochul’s administration is sitting on a $2 billion mountain of your money. I pledge to end this slush fund and send that cash back to the people who earned it." Since 2019, residential electricity prices in New York have surged by nearly 60%, far outstripping the national average. Despite this, NYSERDA continues to hoard a surplus that is projected to reach $3 billion by 2028. Blakeman identified this surplus as the result of hidden surcharges and Hochul’s energy taxes baked into every monthly utility statement. Key Highlights of the Blakeman Energy Relief Plan: Direct Repayment: Directs NYSERDA to liquidate the "Climate Investment Account" surplus, which could reach $3 Billion. Bill Credits: Provides immediate relief on utility statements, rather than long-term, speculative rebates. Accountability: Ends the practice of collecting "surplus" funds from ratepayers that exceed the state's immediate operational needs.
